but I put my head down and caught
them: the Ohio privateer said. "You
just had to be smart and pick good
lines out there."
At one point, Jarrett charged back
into the lead, and he was running
second when he sheered the flywheel
key off of his Yamaha and killed the
engine. He had to retire to the pits
with a DNF.
When Jarrett and Smith stopped
for gas, Lafferty kept going and
pulled a big lead, big enough so that
when he stopped the next lap, he still
had enough distance to hold the point
position.
"I have to give credit to Allen
[Randt, his mechanic] for letting me
pit late," Lafferty said. "It let me get a
gap on those guys and ride my own
