(Left) Josh Demuth 111 and Buddy Antunez (1001 batUed it out for the win In Sunday's 250cc main. Demuth came out with the win, while Antunez had to settle for second. lBelowl Jason Thomas had a good weekend for a gambler, going 11-7-11-7 over the weekend after starting on the second row for every race. (Leftl Ryan Huffman took his first win ever in arenacross in Friday's 125cc main. McQuory (Yom); 15. BrlJd Hogseth (Ko",). 250 MAIN; 1. Josh Demuth (Yom); 2. Buddy Ha..ptlIn Coliseum Ha..ptlIn, Vi,.inia Raub: Ja....ry 24-25, 2003 [Round 17-181 said from the podium. "I rode a strong race and was able to take a third overall. I got a good start and was able to stay in the top three spots the whole race. I'm hoping that there're more podiums in my future." "I got a great start and was leading the first part of the race," Demuth said. "I felt like I was riding really great until I got some dirt in the rear brake. It took three or four corners to work out the dirt in it, and by then Darcy Lange caught up to me, and I tried riding holding him off, but he was on the move. He got by me for the lead and was gone." "I didn't get the good start I wanted," Lange said. "I got out around sixth or so, then I started to pick off riders one at a time. I was able to get into second behind Demuth, and I started to try different lines, then I was able to catch him, and I went inside in a turn and was able to get by him for the lead. Now, I think there are going to be many more wins for me." Holding on to fourth place after last night's first-place finish was Huffman, followed by Laughridge. Antunez got a long-needed holeshot in the 250cc main, and Lange trailed him closely at first. Lange eventually made the move, only for Antunez to pass him back followed by third-place starter Demuth, who closed the gap and zapped Antunez for the lead before it was over. Demuth won his 20th event, followed by Antunez - who has zero wins on the season so far - and Lange. "I got past Buddy for the lead, then the Red Cross flag was up," Lange said. "Then Antunez got by me again, and then Demuth got by me, too, for second. I really didn't realize that Demuth was that close to me. I dropped back to third and stayed there for the rest of the race." "I got the holeshot finally," Antunez said. "It felt good to put my RM250 up front right off the bat - it's been awhile. I led most of race until Josh Demuth got to my wheel when Darcy and I couldn't do the big double jump on one lap. After that, he put together some good laps and lines behind me and was able to get by me with a few laps to go. I got to his wheel a few times after that but wasn't able to get back into the lead. I want to get Suzuki its first win. I want to get this monkey off my back of not winning a race this year - ride like the five-time champ that I am." "It was awesome; I was able to get out in third behind Darcy and Antunez," Demuth said. "First, I focused on picking off Lange for second, then I set my sights on Buddy. He was really doing well tonight. I found a better line in one of the sections and was able put a good pass on him." Fourth went to Laughridge, while fifth went to Hofmaster. CN Antunez (Suz); 3. "I was the victim of bad starts in Friday night's mains," Antunez said. "I need to get some better starts. I have the speed and good lap times, I just can't get the starts I need. Well, until the 250 main on Saturday. 1got the holeshot finally and was leading it until Demuth passed me. I ended up taking a second overall - my best finish of the weekend: ® Tommy Hofmaster Best finish: 3rd Shogun Yamaha's Tommy Hofmaster started a off the weekend on the podium. "I had an average weekend and a podium finish," Hofmaster said. "I had a good 125 main on Friday night, finishing third. Both nights in the 250 mains I got two okay finishes. Didn't get the starts I wanted after the first race on Friday. I felt good and hope to do better next weekend. " . 71 ® Evan Laughridge Best finish: two 4ths Antunez's Suzuki teammate Evan Laughridge felt pleased with his consistent weekend. "I felt I had my best weekend of the year this weekend," he said. "I got a few bad starts and made some mistakes. but I was able to make a few good passes. The track was hard to pass on and had a few big ruts in some comers. I am looking at the series in a whole different way now, and 1think I can win one soon: cue I e nevvs FEBRUARY 1 2, 2003 15
