Specifications ®l2@ els, with a 45mm throttle body and the same Marelli 5.9 ECU. All of this is supposed to add a little bit more than 5'/, horsepower and a good chunk more torque. All of this additional power and torque wouldn't be of much use without an improved transmission and clutch. The clutch is a dry unit, which also features a new aluminum clutch basket and plates. The 1000 DS doesn't hide the fact that it was designed to give killer midrange punch. When a company says that its bike delivers midrange power, this is what it should feel like. Even from way down low in the powerband, the 1000 just delivers an incredible amount of torque, making the bike a wheelie-pulling king, like it or not. From a pure hooligan point of view, the 1000 is a total blast - awesome acceleration, a big fat midrange, and fantastic six-speed gearbox add up to a power-junkie's bliss. The 1000 DS features a lighter, fully adjustable set of 43mm upside down Showa forks. Additionally, the rear shock on the 1000 DS is a fully adjustable Ohlins unit, which also has provisions for ride height adjustment. Like the 800, the 1000 features an aluminum swingarm and the new five-spoke wheels. The funny thing is that from a pure handling point of view, the 1000 isn't quite as sharp as the 800 is. As I mentioned above, the 800 is really the best handler of the three bikes I rode. Also, as I said above, the combination of the spinning mass of the heavier crankshaft on the 1000 and the wider 180/55ZR 17 tires really keeps the 1000 from turning as sweetly as the 800. On the other hand, if I didn't ride them back to back, it probably wouldn't have bothered me a bit. It's not that the bike is in any way a poor handling bike, it's just that the 800 requires so much less input at the bars to do the same job. If you are a power addict first-and-foremost, this bike will give you your fix. It's really hard to get on this bike and not pull wheelies. I mean how could you not with that intoxicating torque? The bike is very similar to the other two bikes in terms of ergonomics and comfort; it is definitely a bike that you can spend all day on in total comfort. The Supersport 1000 DS carries an $11,395 MSRP and is available in Red, Yellow or Metallic Dark Gray. eN dates The following updates have been made to the entire line of Sport and Supersport models: • The engine start-up safety devices have been modified so that the engine can be warmed up with the side stand down. • The headlight assemblies are now much lighter and feature a new, brighter reflective material. • The instrument panels are new and feature two new analog gauges and two digital dlsplays.
