Leeman opted to leave his Harley-Davidson XR750 at home and brought out the more agile Triumph for the night. Making a pre-race gearing change, St. Cloud, Minnesota's Leeman rode to victories in both the Master and Vintage Twin classes. His steady riding style and the agility of the bike proved to be too much for the competition. In the Master class, Yamaha-mounted Bob Reynolds of Prior Lake, Minnesota, took the holeshot but missed a shift, leaving the door wide open for Leeman to take the lead. Leeman went on uncontested for the win. The Vintage Twin class was all Leeman's. Greg Goncy followed, ahead of Fred Prudhomme and Chuck Raustadt. Josh Carlson of New Market, Minnesota, won the 250cc Amateur class his first time out dirt-tracking. The 17 -year-old Carlson was riding his RM250 motocross bike with a borrowed 19-inch front wheel/tire and dirt-track back tire to partially DTX his bike. After he crashed hard in practice, his pit crew made some suspension adjustments that definitely helped for the races. Carlson won the holeshot in the mllin event and was never challenged. He was followed to the checkers by Chris Laubersheimer from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, and Yamaha-mounted Jim Brethorst from Eden Prairie, Minnesota. In Open Pro action, KTM-mounted Kurt Boehlke of Cedar, Minnesota, placed third in the heat race but got the holeshot in the main event and cruised to the win. He was followed by Chad Sparks from Belle Plaine, Minnesota, riding his Yamaha 125, and series points leader Eric Brouhard, on his Crown Mortgage Rotax. Brouhard battled for several laps with teammate Willie Broten of New Market, Minnesota. The pair raced each other for the last podium position, while Boehlke and Sparks put distance on them. Broten was followed by veteran dirt-tracker Billy Hoffmeister, on a Rotax, and Randy Thistle of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, who was riding his Gopher Glass Rotax entry. The Open Pro class is always a crowd favorite at the MotoDome. as they put on a great show for everyone with their fast and hard riding action on the slick track. The Oldenburg family of Browerville, Minnesota, consistently does well at their hometown track. McCoy is 9, Mitchell is 8, and McKenna is 5. and they all ride KTMs. On this evening, Mitchell took first place in the Micro Chain class and placed fourth in the 65cc Mini contest, while McKenna placed second in the Micro Shaft class, and McCoy was third in the 65cc Mini class. Mitchell has taken first place in the Micro Chain class in every race this season. This family promotes and races both dirt track and motocross. There were 57 motorcycle racers at the MotoCity Dome on this night. and they enjoyed a lot of very close racing. I ~LASVE6AS ~ [ ~ ~~ MOTOR SPEEDWAY, u i Results MICRO CHAIN: 1 Mltchell Oldenburg; 2.
