National Arenacross Series Round 7: The Pyramid The champ continues his dominance but Lange is picking up same momentum. l By DAVE DERINGER PHOTOS BY RAY GUNDY MEMPHIS, TN, JAN 10-11 osh Demuth looks to have the National Arenacross Series figured out - again. Aboard a pair of Yamaha four-strokes, the Team Shogun Motorsports/Yamaha rider took another two wins at The Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee, but he can't rest easy, because Darcy Lange is getting faster and faster as the season gets older. The current and defending Arenacross Champion, Demuth, who hails from Texas, won both 125cc finals and finished runner-up to Lange in both of the 250cc mains over the weekend. His points lead at the halfway mark of the series is now 63 over Lange, who knows that Demuth is going to be hard to catch in the remaining seven rounds. "This track had some really loose sand; on Thursday the track was a mess," Demuth said of the course. "The track guys did a good job with it and cleaned it up. We all had to race on the same thing so it was fair. it's been a few good weekends lately, 26 JANUARY 29,2003' cue I e and me and my mechanic Jack Yost are going to keep trying to get up on the podium for the entire second ha If of the season." And what does he think of all of the injuries that have taken place this year? "I'm just thankful to be healthy right now," he said. "The good Lord is watching over me and some of the other guys, and we've been lucky. Hopefully all those other guys can get healed up and back out here on the track with us." Team Green's Lange now has the Richmond Kawasaki semi to himself, because both of his teammates, Gavin Grayck and Brad Hagseth, are out with injuries. But the Fox-backed Lange is doing well in the lonely confines, as he took another two wins over the two-night stop in Memphis. He also took another Dash-for-Cash victory and is leading that series, which declares its own champion at the end of the year, as well. "I've just been riding my own races, and it seems that I'm picking it up a bit," Lange said of winning four of the last six finals. "We've got half of the series to go, and I'm going to give it a shot. I've got to thank Dave Gowland, n e vv s Kawasaki, Pro Circuit and my mechanic Ian Woods. They are all helping me out a lot." Demuth's teammate Tommy Hofmaster had some strong finishes and holds third in the points, even though he has yet to hit the podium since winning a 250cc final at Rockford, illinois, back in December. Hofmaster went 5-4-7-4 over the weekend, led (Above) Josh Demuth (1) survived this pass attempt by Buddy Antunez for Saturday night's 125cc win at the Memphis Arenacross. Demuth came away with two 125cc-class wins over the weekend. (Below) Darcy Lange also collected a pair of wins in the 250cc class.
