"There was no way we could have predicted this kind of turnout. and we had a few logistical problems, but we're already thinking about how to solve them for next year." San Luis Motorsports is a mid-sized volume dealer in a moderate-sized market. Myrick has been on the scene for some years, first as a Honda/Sea-Do outlet but gradually expanding to become a Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki store with an 8000-square-foot showroom, 30 employees and a miniature motocross track out back by the creek. It's a thoroughly modern dealership that retains a bit of the old·time friendliness generally absent in larger markets. The national riders agreed that it was a pleasure to be in San Luis Obispo. It was Hawkins and Watts' second time at the event. "I had a real good time." Hawkins said. "They do a great job with this event. I wish we could go to more of these around the country. And we had a real good ride." The enduro master said he was planning to return next year. Rumors, unconfirmed as usual, include the possibility of a National Pro XR50 race. LOCAL TALENT D.J. TURNER CALCASIEU PARISH, LA, DEC. 7 A tradition was repeated on behalf of deserving boys and girls in Southwest Louisiana. The local United States Marine Corps reserve unit once again organized and led the 2002 Toys For Tots Motorcycle Run. Beautiful weather and a great cause brought out 92 thundering "reindeer" on a journey to pick up toys that had been collected at participating businesses in the area. At the registration point for the Run, 137 toys were collected, along with $1500 in cash to buy even more treasures for Christmas morning. At the final stop on the Run. the rid· ers were treated to a traditional Louisiana feast: a young pig roasted over an open pit. The meal was delicious, but the real payoff is the light in the eyes of the youngsters. their parents and guardians, who will share in a brighter and merrier Christmas. The organizers, sponsors and participants did a great job and showed that generous hearts can make the season bright. eN SPONSORS: •• Metal Specialist Inc., Mimi, Paw Paw, Dad and Von LOCAL TUCK: • • • • • Bremen Cuss: • 80cc Beginner Motocross Park RECENT acCOMPLISHMENTS • Winner, 80cc Beginner class, in his first season • Jumping Supercross Double at Calhoun Supercross WHY Do You RACE?
