St. George Motocross Track Davenport Rests Easy By DICK GooOWlN ST. GEORGE, UT, NOV. 29 Motocross racers by the hundreds descended on the St. George Motocross Track in St. George. Utah, for the annual Utah Sport Riders Association doubleheader Thanksgiving Motocross Classic Races on Friday and Satur· day. In races of this magnitude (with more than 1400 entries total), there are many motos, and all the gates are full. In Friday's 125cc Pro action, rising star Gray Davenport trounced a large field in a dominating and impressive performance. When the gate dropped for the first half, David Panzer shot out to the lead, ahead of Mike Oliver and Brandon Moses. When Panzer dropped it in a comer, Moses fought through for the lead. but Davenport was surging steadily toward the front. He blasted into the lead toward the end of lap one. as Chris Butterfield fought his way into second. The man on the move was Josh Taylor. slicing and dicing his way past a bunch of riders to take over second midrace. By then, Davenport was long gone, and he won round one with ease. Taylor came out on top of a great three-way brawl for second, leading Tim Symes and Butterfield through the checkers in a bang-bang finish. Davenport took the initiative in the second half, blasting out in front of Butterfield and Panzer when the gate dropped. Once again, Davenport dropped a combination of blazing speed and skillful riding on his competition, opening up an immediate lead. Oliver held off Taylor In a close battle for second. Afterward, Davenport could recline and rest easy after taking two monster wins and the overall 125cc Pro title. Taylor was once again the best of the rest, as he grabbed second overall, leading Oliver and Butterfield in the final standings. A dominating performance was also turned in by Brandon Kealamakia in the big Supermini class. He also won the 80cc Intermediate contest, thereby winning everything he entered for the day. In Supermini action, Eric Barlow led Landon Powell and the troops into battle. Kealamakia. lurking in third, wasted little time picking off riders until he found himself with the lead. Jeremy 0' Driscoll rock-'n'-rolled through the rhythms, earning third place for his efforts. Out in front, Kealamakia was laying down a scorching pace. cementing down win number one. O'Oriscoll continued his charge, fighting his way into second, as Logan Binggeli broke though for third at the end. Kealamakia smoked the start of race two, as Tony Esposito and Brady Powell tried to keep pace. Kealamakia was on fire, and Esposito was desperately trying not to lose touch. O'Driscol1 charged up to third in a bid to take the second spot, but no one was catching Kealamakia, who took win number two and the overall Supermini crown. Esposito just held off 0' Driscoll in a close battle for runner-up, but the overall results flipped, with O'Driscoll claiming second overall. Binggeli rounded out the top four.
