the first lap. Then Weisenfels made the pass for the lead, with Stone close behind in pursuit, trying to retake the lead. Leivan was close behind, making up for the time he lost on the first lap and turning in the fastest lap time of the top trio on the second lap. Weisen· fels and Stone were running so close while battling it out for the victory that they were mere seconds apart. Weisenfels had to pit for gas, which took 16 seconds off the clock, but then he regained some ground and passed Stone back and took charge on the track. When Stone had to stop for gas, it lessened his chances of overcoming Weisenfels. Leivan was finishing up the race on the final lap by turning in his fastest lap time of the day, despite his pit stop. The KTM of Fayetteville/Acerbis/Renthal/ Scott/HJC-backed Weisenfels rode his KTM through the checkered nag for the victory. Weisenfels called his KTM flawless. "It had unbelievable power and pulled hard in the deep, sandy sections." he declared. "Everything just worked great. I'm looking forward to the 2003 race season with KTM."
