Troy, Alabama's Joe Tomlin returned to the top of the podium at Riverside MX. In 1982, Tomlin was a promising 125cc B rider when he suffered a serious knee injury on Amateur Day at the Road Atlanta 250/500cc National. ow back in the sport and enjoying it more than ever. he competed In the 125cc D class. He rode his Honda to a tie-breaking victory over Alex Mcinnis' YZ250F. Tomlin grabbed the holeshot in the first 125cc D moto, with Mcinnis close behind. Branden Devilbiss and Keith Brown followed. Mcinnis passed for the lead in the whoops. Tomlin kept him in sight to the finish. Sam Jarvis put his Kawasaki in fourth, behind Devilbiss. Tomlin ran out front in moto two until Mcinnis motored past in the whoops again. Tomlin went back into the lead before the end and secured the mota and overall win. Devilbiss picked up another third on his Yamaha. In 250cc D racing, Chuck Branson led both times out before yielding to Jeff Hammonds. The Suzuki rider passed Branson in the back section in moto one. Jarvis. riding in his second class, claimed third, ahead of CR450-mounted Buck Walters. Branson stayed out front for three laps in moto two before Hammonds got by. Branson stalled his Honda but refired in time to finish ahead of Jarvis and Walters. Motorcycle news will never be the same!
