ith the threat of a torrential
,
downpour, and under the most
overcast skies imaginable, the series
finale of the Cycle World Magazine
Super IT came to Buttonwillow Race
Track. The 120 entrants who participated in the finale presented by
Maxxis Tires were not disappointed.
Though these races are run rain or
shine, the predicted rain never materialized, so what greeted the riders
was a well-prepared half-mile dirt
section with two jumps, and a full
mile of paved race track utilizing the
east loop section of Buttonwillow.
Thanks to the hustle and organization of Buttonwillow's crew, everything was ready to go by the scheduled 9:30 a.m. practice time.
Following practice, a brief riders'
meeting was conducted by Cycle
World editor Don Canet, with heat
races commencing immediately
afterward at 11 :00 a.m. Following the
heat races, the program went straight
to the main events to allow the riders
as much track time as possible.
At 2:30 p.m., the Middleweight
main was staged. AFAM/Volcom/
Dunlop's Mark Cernicky had fallen on
the last lap of the heat race while battling for the lead, but he had replaced
