Haspin Acres MX Park
Fisher, King Again
By AJ...Ex FuEH1'W't
LAUREL, IN, NOV. 3
Mother Nature greeted the riders attending the
final round of the Haspin Acres Motocross
Championship Series with beautiful weather. A
well-groomed track and a large turnout of
riders made for an awesome day of racing.
In the 125cc class, the star of the day was
Yamaha of Troy's Taylor Harmon, who styled
his way to both moto wins. Claiming second
overall was Drew Johnston, riding his brandnew YZ125. Johnston just moved out of the
80cc class into the 125s, Bnd he showed
everybody he's ready for next year. Ross 011berding and Todd Eads battled back and forth
in both matos, with Eads claiming third overall
with 5-5 mota scores and Ollberding taking
fourth with a 4-6 effort.
The 250cc (Division One) contest featured
some of the tightest competition of the event,
among Harmon, Teddy Fisher and Lowell
Mason. Sometimes they were two and three
riders wide around the racetrack. There was
quite a range of ages among the riders in this
contest, from young Harmon, who just turned
14, to Honda-mounted Fisher, who's 44.
Mason pulled the first-mota holeshot and
led the pack for three laps until Fisher, who
started around fifth, passed Mason on the
high-speed back section of the track. Miamitown Cycles rider Mason stayed with Fisher
to the checkered flag. Finishing third was
Harmon. riding a 125.
The second mota was II little different. This
time. Harmon was on a borrowed CRF450R,
and when the gate dropped, it was the kid who
absconded with the holeshot. Fisher tucked in
behind Harmon, with Mason alongside as lap
one finished. Then Fisher started knocking on
the door and soon found his way around Harmon. On the fin81 lap, Harmon made his
move, closing in on Fisher, but he just
couldn't budge Fisher out of the way. Fisher
won the motos and the overall; Harmon was
second overall, and Mason was a solid third.
Another young, strong kid named Brian
Schackel finished fourth overall.
The Open class belonged to Mike Faulk,
who pushed his Honda of Troy CRF to the
front in both matos, though not without a fight.
Harmon shadowed Faulk in both motos for
second overall. Suzuki~mounted Dave Hill was
third overall.
The Dash For Cash was intense at times,
with Fisher, Faulk and Harmon all riding the
big HondB CRF450Rs. Everyone watched in
anticipation as the last mota of the season left
the line. Fisher - a.k.a. "Mr. Smooth" - took
both matos, over the hard-charging Harmon
and Faulk. Harmon outdueled Faulk in the
