California Racing Club Sponsorship Series Round 4: Los Angeles County Raceway (Left) Benny Breck (318) leads zack Fullmer (419), Brett Klein (199). Brett Moscrop (379) and eventual overall winner Sterling Zepeda (287) in the tim 125cc Novice molo at round four of the 14th annual California Racing Club Sponsorship Series. (Below) Justin Eide ran off with the overall wins in the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes at Los Angeles County Raceway. STORV AND PHOTOS BV GREG ROBERTSON PALMDALE, CA, NOV. 17 ound four of the 14th annual California Racing Club/Galpin Ford/ Maxima/Tru Tec/Scott/VP Racing Fuels-sponsored Sponsorship Series returned to Los Angeles County Raceway in Palmdale, with a great turnout of riders ready to do battle on a redesigned Saddle Glen track. When all the battles had been fought and all the dust (or, in this case, sand) had finally settled, it was the consistent 2-2 rides of Sterling Zepeda that earned the 125cc Noviceclass overall honors. When the gate slammed the sand in the first moto, it was YZ250F rider Benny Breck with the holeshot, ahead of Daniel Hendrix, Brett Klein, Lester Varnum and Zepeda. The moto was all Breck's, as he held off Hendrix for a couple of laps and then Klein for a short while and finally Zepeda on the last lap to take the win. Klein finished a close third, with Varnum holding off Hendrix at the line for fourth. Breck proved his first-moto start was no fluke as he reeled off another holeshot in moto two to lead Kaulin Boggio, Zepeda, Klein and Hendrix. Boggio got around Breck for the top spot within a lap, with Zepeda all over Breck's back fender. Zepeda hounded Breck for a couple of circuits before finding some daylight to make the pass and then setting out after Boggio. Zepeda closed to the back wheel of Boggio but couldn't quite make the pass and had to settle for a close second, which was good enough to sew up the overall on his 661-backed RM 125. Breck finished third for second overall, with Boggio going 7-1 for third. Hendrix (5·4) and Varnum (4-5) rounded out the top five. Ricky Parks Jed the charge in the opening 125cc Intermediate moto for a little over a lap before Justin Eide took over for good. Longtime Suzuki 36 DECEMBER 11, 2002' pilot c.J. Mahon, on his new Honda, picked up speed as the laps passed, and he caught Eide in the end but ran out of time. Steven Cisar slowly worked his way up into a third-place finish, ahead of Parks, Andrew Jackson and Matt Simpson. Cisar and Eide traded the lead back and forth a couple of times in moto two until a bobble dropped Cisar back to a sixth-place finish. Simpson put in a strong second moto to go 6-2 for third overall, behind the 2-3 tally of Mahon. Park's 4-5 scores got the better of the 3-6 finishes of Cisar for fourth overall. Eide returned on his Mid Cities/J. Jones/Pro Taper/Answer-backed CRF450R to pretty much walk away with both 250cc Intermediate moto wins. Justin Reese was runner-up to Eide in both races, with Bryon Ward and Anthony Bonello finishing third and fourth, respectively. Colby Raha was another doubleclass winner on the day. The Thousand Oaks Yamaha/AC Racing-sponsored Raha turned a pair of good starts into a double-moto sweep of the Super Pee Wee (7-9) field. Dane LaTorre used 4-2 finishes to edge out the 3-4 score of Matthew Evans for second overall. Things were a little tougher for Raha in the 65cc Beginner class, as he had to work his way toward the front in both races to eventually split moto wins with Tyler Enticknap for the first-place trophy. Kyle Prince had a couple of close thirds, followed by Junior Delgado (4-6) and Ricky Maldonado (8-4). Tyler Sjoberg and his Pit Pro-sponsored KX85 were untouchable in both 85cc (7-11) races. Series front-run· ner Armando Aguilar and Cooper Hall each had a second-place finish, with Hall getting his in the all-important, tie· breaking second moto. With the exception of a mechanically induced DNF in a moto at the opening round of the series, Chad cue I e n e vv s (right) KTM-mounted Colby Raha went three for four to top both the Super Pee Wee (7-9) and 65cc Beginner classes In Palmdale, California. Abbott has been on fire in the 125cc Beginner class, and this day was more of the same. Abbott absconded with the holes hot in both motos aboard his JMG Motorsports/N-Stylesponsored YZ250F and easily pulled away uncontested. Cody Maness went 4-2 for second overall, followed by Evan Menen (3-4) and Mike Hearns (7-3). eN Los Angeles County Raceway Pelm""e, California Results: November 17, 2002 (Round 41 P/W VAM BEG: 1.
