George Roeder's brother and the uncle of current Grand National dirt tracker Geo Roeder. died on September 26 at the age of 76. Roeder was also a racer, starting his career in 1948 and eventually earning National #80. He is survived by five children. Lou Trachtenberg. 52. the owner and founder of STD Development in Chatsworth, California. died recently from yet-to-be-determined causes after falling ill and being hospitalized the day before. The French rider tested the 998RS recently at Misano in Italy, lapping at an impressive 1:37.5 on a slippery racetrack. Laconi will likely be joined by Simone Sanna on the two-rider team, with Laconi using Michelins and Sanna using Dunlops. As of press time. Aprilia is without a World Superbike team, according to Cycle News correspondent Paolo Gozzi. One rumor has Dutch sponsor Rizla coming on board to back Jurgen van den Goorbergh and a second rider on an Aprilia World Superbike team. World Supersport road racer Paolo Casoli has returned to his home in Monte Carlo follOWing his testing crash at Valencia on November 13 that left him with head injuries. Casoli spent two weeks in the hospital in Spain and then was flown to Italy where he underwent further evaluation. Doctors have said that Casoli has to stay home until midDecember before he can begin his rehabilitation. In mid-January. Casoli could be back on a motorcycle. Yamaha Belgarda is not slated to replace the injured Italian on their team, according to Paolo Gozzi. Although nothing official has been announced. there is the possibility that the 2003 World Superbike rules will no longer mandate air restrictors for 1000cc four-cylinder superbikes, according to Gozzi, The series promot- er. Octagon, may end up adopting AMA Superbike rules and allow unrestricted 1000cc fours to run with the 1000cc Vtwins while also allowing overbored 750cc fours of up to 800cc. "We agree to adopt special rules like AMA or British Championship, but just for 2003 season - from 2004. MSMA will rewrite new rules for World Superbike," said the CEO of Ducati Corse, Claudio Domenicali.
