With his efforts improving each round, Downey finished ahead of Drew Weaver (5-5) in the final top-five spot. Billy Duncan (4-1) traded scorecards with Garrett Kingan (1-4) en route to the 250cc Beginner-class win after Kingan won the first two rounds. Neal Lauzon picked up third overall. Jonathan Weaver and Casey Dyreson rounded out the top five. Mid-Cities-backed Brett Klein picked up an overall win in the 250cc Novice class after swapping moto finishes with Tyler O'Neill, who won the first mota with Klein hot on his rear tire. Nathan Terry (4-3) picked up his second top-three finish. Andrew Terry and Brett Moscrop finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Dragon Optics-backed Randy Clark took the overall from the hands of Pro- Taper's Branden Milstead in the second moto of the 2S0cc Pro class and won mota two after giving chase to Milstead in moto one. Ryan Picard chased the two leaders in both motos but never did get close enough to make a move for position. Matt Tedder swept both motos of the Old Timers Master B class in his very first ride with the Over 40 racing organization. Dave Eropkin kept pace with Tedder for second in mota two. Then Kurt Sofka Jr. improved in his second moto, finishing behind Tedder and bumping Eropkin to third. Sofka's 4-2 score eamed him third overall, while Eropkin was able to take the runner-up spot with his 2-3 score. Asker Lamkjaer took the lead in the second moto after running second to John Webb during moto one of the Old· Timers Over 50 Novice class to claim the overall win. Webb slipped to third in mota two for second overall, while Bob Alloy went 3-2 for third. Brandon Navarrette (Hon): 4. Brandon Campbell (Hon). 85 OPEN: l. Tony Esposito (Suz): 2. Suzuki stomper lack Ahleen stormed off with the opening holeshot, as the Steven Wade Powersports·sponsored hotshoe from St. George, Utah, smoked the field when the gate dropped. Fellow Steven Wade rider Brodie Humphries, also on a Suzuki, was right behind him, with Maxima/Thousand Oaks Kawasaki ace Ronnie Goodwin lurking in third. Goodwin made the first big move, splitting the competition in the hairpin tum to grab first. Ahleen stayed tight as Springville, Utah's Alex Mecham joined in the fight at the front. Goodwin lit it up, while Ahleen tried to stay close. The fight for third was between Mecham and Humphries, as nobody else was close. Goodwin romped, Ahleen locked on second, and Humphries triumphed over Mecham for third. Dragster-oriented Ahleen smoked off the line to claim holeshot number two. Goodwin ltnd Humphries were breathing down his neck. Goodwin sliced into second, and he and Ahleen went "pass and repass" in the intricate sections of the west side. Humphries stayed "deodorant close" as the 7- to 11-year-olds were earning the crowd's money once again. Inexorabiy, Goodwin forged a lead, and by race's end there was no argument as to the overall winner of the 85cc (7-11) class. Humphries, with a big second-race effort, cemented the number-two spot, ahead of Ahleen, Mecham and Chantz Conder. in the final results. It was more of the same as the Mehr boys, Spencer and Ryan, seem to win on a regular basis. On this night, it was Ryan's tum in the spotlight, as he took on the always tough 125cc Novice class. Tony Esposito. Suzuki's "star in the making," led Ryan and Ken Hynes around the tree, but Ryan took the point in short order. Brian Fowler, another big hitter in this class, moved up to second over the big triple, and set out after Ryan. Ryan put the hammer down, but Fowler kept coming. Esposito was a solid third, with Tim Parsons, Joey Webb and Hynes all trying to bust a move for fourth. Ryan took the measure of race one, with Fowler and Esposito trailing. Parsons locked up fourth, over Webb. Focused and ferocious, Ryan took off in the second half, while Esposito and Casey Bywater were in "National Car Rental" mode. Ryan wanted to say "lights out" once again, but Esposito wasn't having any of that; he was hanging out and hanging on. Henderson, Nevada's Jason Clarthen was also climbing onto the leaderboard this time out, tacking up an impressive third. Ryan held off a determined Esposito to take the 125cc Novice crown. Parsons, steady and solid, nailed third overall, ahead of Clarthen, Fowler and Webb. MIKE "SIR SMILEY" RYER PERRIS, CA, NOV. 10 At round three of Perris Raceway's Holiday Series, Brandon Scharer rode his Renthalbacked Cobra to a two-moto sweep in the 50cc Modified (7-8) class to bring his total win count to six moto wins for a three-race sweep. Shane Post went 3-2 while chasing Scharer for second overall and claimed his third top-five position after chasing Lem pilot Eric Yorba, who slipped to a fifth in moto two for third overall on the day. Another Lem rider, Jacob Pischke, picked up fourth overall with his 5-3 score, while Brady Kiesel improved to fifth overall after placing sixth overall at round two. After beating Biake Green and Tyler Tungate in the first round, Bryce Cords remains unchallenged in the SOcc Modified (4-6) class and clinched the title with two races remaining. After missing round one, Donnie Kearney swept both 80cc (Through 11) motos to claim his second top-three finish in a row. Michael Hall gave chase in both motos for second overall, while Mitchell Alcom improved in his second mota, scoring 4·3 and third overall while bumping Troy Lee's Brett Downey (3-4) Results 50 STK (4·6)' I.
