well that if you can follow him and
stay on him, it's easy, but once you
drop back, and you can't tell where to
go and what bumps to miss, it gets a
whole lot tougher. He was just inching
away from me after that."
Dubach was inching away from
everyone, boasting a six-second lead
by the halfway point.
Fowler fell behind equally in third,
while Ward came under fire from
Montclair Yamaha's Ty Davis, riding
his Hare [, Hound YZ450F.
"I can't try to charge and stay with
those guys; I have the speed, but then
I only last about two laps before my
arms pump up, so I just ride around
at my own pace," said a modest
Ward. "But they pulled away."
Davis made his move by lap three
and pushed Ward back to fifth, but
ultimately it wouldn't last, as Davis'
bike gave up the ghost on the second-to-Iast go-around.
"The case ended up breaking and
leaving a bunch of oil all over the
place," Davis said. "It lost all the oil,
and the little thing on the window [at
the top of the cylinder] popped out,

one time, and that was the time he
didn't race the event because of an
injury. Every other year he's been eligible to compete, he has won - a total
of nine times! That being said, he was
obviously the favorite going into this
event on his new Dubach Racing
Development YZ450F, and he didn't
disappoint, leading basically every
inch of every lap, grabbing both
holeshots and then winning in a pair
of runaways.
YZ450F-mounted Terry Fowler,
CRF450R pilot Jeff Ward, and
YZ450F rider Kevin Walker all chased
Dubach through turn one at the
beginning of the first moto, and Walker swept around Ward and Fowler
into second in the next tum.
"I came out of the first turn second, behind Doug, and Kevin got by
me in the second corner - I took
some goon line on the inside, and he
rode around me," Fowler said.
"I pulled in right behind Dubach
after that and keyed off of him for
about two laps and made one mistake," Walker said. "Once he got
away from me, he knows the track so

(Len) Doug Dubach was untouchable
on the way to his ninth World Vet MX
Championship at Glen Helen Raceway.
He led every Inch of every lap.
Tennessee's Kevin Walker
completed the VZ450F podium
sweep with a 2-3 third overall In
very unfamiliar condtuons.
