Glen Helen Raceway Park A Dazzling Dubach. a Great Scott! By ROCKY HASH SAN BERNARDINO, CA, OCT. 26 Overcast skies and early-morning showers eventually gave way to partial sunshine, producing excellen-t racing conditions on the track during Racing Enterprises Motorsports' weekly Saturday motocross. There was a large turnout of racers and many tight racing battles on the day. In the Over 40 Intermediate djvision consistency was the key, as Gary Scott topped the class without winning either moto, In the first go-around, Villa Racing Products' Frank Villa saw the checkered flag first as he took the mota win. Scott chased him to the fiag aboard his CRF450R for a close second-place finish, while Gary Gonzales loped in third. In the second moto, the running order was shaken up a bit, as Honda rider Rudy Chavez took the win, ahead of Yamaha-mounted Thad Friday, while Scott came across the line third. On the day, the overall win went to Scott by virtue of hjs 2-3 finishes. Friday was rewarded for hjs strong second moto with second overall after posting a 4-2 tally, while Chavez (6-1) ended up third. A bad start and a crash in the second mota hurt Villa, but his 1-6 rides were still good for fourth overall, and Gonzales (3-5) filled out the top five. The 250cc Pro class was an interesting affair. Current Vet World Champion Doug Dubach had to work for his money after uncharacteristically crashing in both motos. In the first stanza, Dubach gated second, behind YZ450F rider Ryan Dudek, but he only made it three turns before he slid out. Dubach remounted quickly in fourth place, right behind Tony Amaradio. While Dudek did his best to maintain the point position, Dubach closed in on him with each succeeding lap. At the 15-minute mark in the long 20-minute contest, Dubach blasted by and took over the lead. From there, Dubach proceeded unheeded for the mota win. Dudek was next best, just ahead of Amaradio. In the second mota, Dudek again ripped the holeshot, with Amaradio and Dubach right behind him. Before the first lap was over, Dubach and Amaradio came together in a tight tum, resulting in both riders going down. This time, however, Dubach was slower to remount, and he rejoined the fray in dead last. Dudek tried to get away, but Dubach was hanging it out in grand style behind him, passing riders in bunches and often closing two and three seconds per lap on the leader. While he's nearly 40 years old, Dubach remains an j
