his final race. Three riders were tied in points. Hamill, Larsen and Schwartz had each only lost one point in three rounds of racing. The first semi had Larsen on the pole, with Bryan Yarrow in two and Venegas in three. On the outside were Manchester and Schwartz. It was the "Master of the Gate," Schwartz, who read the referee perfectly and took the lead as the tapes came up. He never looked back. Manchester locked in behind him, and the pair were on their way to the main. Larsen and Venegas were headed to the lastchance qualifier. The second semi saw the pole go to Castro, with Fisher in two and Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell in three. On the outside was John Cook and Hamill. Like his nickname implies, "The Bullet" shot out of the gate and took a commanding lead. Fisher got out second, and he held off McConnell for the spot and a direct transfer to the main. Larsen drew the pole for the LCQ, with McConnell in three and Venegas in five. Cook did not make the start. Larsen is deadly from the pole, and he proved it as he got the gate and the win. He would be the final rider in the main. Schwartz was on the pole for the Fall Classic final, with Hamill in two and Fisher in three. On the outside were Larsen and Manchester. Hamill again came away with a great start, and it took him right to the front of the pack. Larsen won the drag race with Schwartz to the first turn and was running second. Nobody was going to catch Hamill, especially in four laps, and pretty much all they could do was follow him home and marvel at the speed the man gets around the tiny oval. Larsen would claim second and Schwartz third, followed by Manchester and Fisher. Earlier, Hamill had added the Denim Doctor Challenge to his win tally, topping Larsen, Castro and Manchester. John Stunkard, the Costa Mesa Support-class points leader, added the Fall Classic win to his successful season. Billy Braden was second and Scott Ellis Tidwell was third. Support B honors went to Shane Kump, with Bryan Baichtal and Phil Harmatiuk second and third, respectively. eN Casta Mesa Speedway Costa Mesa, California Results: November 2, 2002 Ben Bostrom "Captain America" 13" x 23" • $30.00 (;~.,..-.;;; VISA .-----------------------------------------------~~~~ o DENIM DOCTOR CHALLENGE: I.
