Craig Breckon first and second in Battle of the Twins Formula Three to wrap that title as well. "Friday's practice gave me little indication where I stood," Konneker admitted afterward. "This new track is quite challenging to learn. Saturday's first race was F-1 IF-3. I had a chance to shadow Svensson. In a few laps, Svensson and I were chasing Poczatek. on his RCS1. Svensson squeezed by the RC. I tried to get close enough to draft and set up a pass in the tight stuff. Instead, I got a front-row seat to a rather ugly crash. Seeing this reminded me that I have nothing to gain by going fast. I already had the position I needed for the points, so I cruised to collect the win. "The first F -2 round, Svensson got the start," Konneker continued. "I kept him in sight. He opened up the gap between us. White flag showing, I got close enough to draft him down the back straight. 1 ran hard around the back side, but as I straightened up on the exit of the final turn, Svensson blasted by on the outside and a moment later pumped his fist in the air as he crossed the line. I felt like I just stepped off the bus from Kansas to NYC - mugged! "On Sunday morning, my [Formula Three] plan was to follow close and conserve my tires," Konneker revealed. "A good start and I keep Derek [Keyes] in sight for two full laps. As Svensson approaches the final turn on lap two, his Ducati slammed down, and Svensson tumbled after. The red flag came out. They restarted our race. I ran hard for two laps to clear my head, then pulled in to finish second, behind Keyes. As I already had enough points for F -2, I should have just skipped that race, but track time is track time, and March is a long time away." It was a great race year for AHRMA, with a fantastic season finale. If you haven't seen North Florida Motorsports Park, you need to be ready for a great start to the AHRMA Rick Merhar (202) and Greg Steinbeck (1G) battled It out in the Formula 125cc class. Mertlar won on Saturday, with Steinbeck second, and they switched places on Sunday. 2003 road race season. They will host the pre-Daytona warm-up. This is a great facility with fantastic potential for the future of motorcycle road racing. The track is two miles in length, with some good technical racing. Again, this is to be a motorcycles-only race facility. Pit areas and other facilities are in progress, with some portions already in place. Manager Bill Brown has stated that the AHRMA season opener will be quite an affair, with possible television coverage and some new sponsorships. Look for more on this as the 2003 opener approaches.
