OCT. 19-20 Jeff Stanton beat up on 44 other riders mounted on heaVily modified XR75cc and 80cc Hondas on Red Bud's Auto Track. Stan· ton rode flawlessly in his qualifier but had to recover in the 12-lap final race to overtake Hi Tech Horsepower's Derek Rose. The final race of the year at Red Bud is traditionally known as the "Grass Track" evenl, and it's all about fun. However, some of the XR racers are very serious about the coveted XR Track Champion title. The track on which the big bikes run is put together on the back side of the facility; it's old-school motocross, with off-cambers. ruts and tree roots, and it starts out on grass.
