Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd., has announced that six months from beginning construction after a fire damaged the Triumph factory in Hinckley, England, Triumph is again building motorcycles. Triumph worked around-the-clock to rebuild the factory on Jacknell Road and the company is pleased to announce that new motorcycles have started to arrive at Triumph distribution centers throughout the world. "All our staff are delighted to be back doing what they do best - building motorcycles which are a superb symbol of British manufacturing throughout the world," stated Karl Wharton, managing director of Triumph Motorcycles. "It was a thrill for everyone involved when the first full production bike rolled off the line on September 17. " Development of new motorcycles has continued apace throughout the rebuilding program. Triumph unveiled their 2003model line-up, including the new Speedmaster model. at Intermot and at their dealer conference in the U.S. "Worldwide support for the Triumph brand has been enormous during the rebuilding program, which has been achieved in recond time thanks to close cooperation with our insurers, the efficiency of the contractors and the enthusiasm and dedication of our staff," said Wharton. o '0 Concerning off-highway motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles, the EPA announced in September new emissions standards that would be partially phasedin in 2006. Full compliance would be required by the manufacturers in 2007. Aaron Yates, Eric Bostrom, Ben Bostrom and Miguel DuHamel, along with AMA road racing manager Ron Barrick, spent most of the day at the track, at the request of track president and general manager Steve Page. "I think that the commitment the raceway is showing the riders is great." said Eric Bostrom. "This place is going from one of the most dangerous tracks in the past to becoming one of the safer tracks. The track is showing that it wants to make a commitment to rider safety and that's important. We don't see that everywhere we go." "This is the first time I've seen a track ask the opinion of riders. It kind of surprised me but I think that's the way it should be," added Ben Bostrom. Banrick and the riders spent the day with Page, track architect Bob Davis and Jere Starks, vice president of facilities, looking at turns one and nine on the 12-turn, 2.32-mile road course. The riders offered ( \ various options that will increase rider safety, as well as maintain fan excitement LJ when the series visits the Sonoma, California, facility for the Supercuts Superbike Challenge, presented by Honda of Milpitas, May 2-4 of 2003. Track officials will incorporate the riders' input when designing altemative track configurations for those two corners. There will be a manufacturer test date once the work is complete for teams that are interested. That date has not been determined. o o c o o o o c o o Alan Gerkey, the trainer for Travis Preston and Stephane Roncada, has just installed the newest version of the ImPACT concussion testing program at his training facility in Menifee, California. This program is the same as used by CART and IRL. according to Gerkey. The "baseline" testing is being offered at "no charge" to all AMA Supercross and motocross Pros in California and those here for winter testing. The test takes apprOXimately 20 minutes and is performed on a computer. This "baseline" testing will enable a rider, his physician and a specialist to design a management program in the event of a concussion or whiplash. "2003 is shaping up nicely,' said American Honda's Chuck Miller, manager, motorcycle sports. "Kurtis [Roberts] is healthy and ready to go, Miguel [DuHamel] is excited about the new 600 and we're very pleased to have Ben Bostrom back. Internally we've added some new team members, and everyone is excited about the new season." For AMA Superbike racing, Honda will retain the services of Miguel DuHamel and Kurtis Roberts while adding former AMA Superbike Champion Ben Bostrom. In the 600cc Supersport class, DuHamel will spearhead the effort along with Erion Racing's three riders - Roger Lee Hayden, Jake Zemke and Alex Gobert - and Bruce Transportation Group's Marty Craggill. In Formula Xtreme, Hayden and Jemke will represent Erion with the Bruce Transportation team fielding Craggill. Two new Honda support teams will compete for AMA National titles this year as well Annandale Racing with riders Ty Howard and Craig Connell, and No Limit Motorsports with Jason Curtis and former Superbike Champion Doug Chandler. Beach's Motorcycle Adventures is collaborating with RawHyde Offroad Adventures to offer dual-sport rides in the California deserts, according to a release issued by Beach's. The concept of backcountry safari touring has been developed by RawHyde, with the company's mobile kitchen and camp bringing a level of comfort to the desert adventures. Two itineraries are currently being offered: Desert Grandeur, with seven days of riding from Los Angeles to Las Vegas via Death Valley and the Mohave Desert, and California Extreme, featUring seven day of riding from Los Angeles to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. When the gate drops for the World Supercross Series on December 7 in Geneva, Switzerland, Nick Weyand Heath Voss will be the riders under the Mach 1 Yamaha pit. Voss will retum to Mach 1 for the 2003 season aboard a factorysupported VZ450F. After barely missing out on the top privateer billing last year to Wey, his new teammate, Voss has focused on designing a new program that will prepare him physically and mentally for the 2003 season, Mach 1 says. Wey will join the team on a factory-supported VZ250 for supercross and a factory-supported YZ450F for the National MX series. "' want to be a winner, and I know I have it in me,· Wey said in the release. "I'm really excited to be with Mach 1 Motorsports and with Yamaha. I'll do whatever it takes to get the job done.' AMA Pro Racing has signed PGI, one of the country's leading event production companies, to produce this year's AMA Pro Racing Awards Banquet on Saturday evening, November 23, at the Venetian Resort Hotel Las Vegas - home of the Guggenheim Museum's "Art of the Motorcycle" exhibit. In addition, AMA Pro Racing has announced that Dave Despain, David Sadowski and Cameron Steele will be the hosts of the annual festivities. The AMA Pro Racing Awards Banquet is open to the public, and tickets are $100, which includes admission to the banquet, hors d' oeuvres, dinner and admission to the film premier of "The Great Outdoors," a documentary covering the 2002 AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championship. This $5000 grant will allow the BRC to help the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and clubs get riders into compliance with the new 96dB limit in California. FMF has produced the revolutionary exhaust systems that are the world's first two-stroke off-road silencers and four-stroke off-road mufflers to combine strong performance while minimizing noise output. according to the release. The 0 systems were developed in anticipation of the 96dB sound limit becoming law in January of 2003. According to Don Emler, FMF's owner and president, "FMF is very happy to support the BRC in this program.
