30 YEARS ASO••• 'If, '972 IIOflEMBER Four different photos from the Mexican 1000 in Baja were placed on the cover of Issue #44. One of the four looked a bit out of place, because it was a buggy, but that buggy contained none other than Malcolm Smith, who wanted to race but couldn't ride because of a broken leg... At the U.S. Grand Prix of Motocross in Carlsbad, California, Heikki Mikkola said he could beat Ake Jonsson, the star of the TransAMA series that year, at the track. Mikkola did win the first moto, ahead of Jonsson and Roger DeCoster, but moto two was all Jonsson, which gave him the overall win. Bob Grossi weln the 256cc Support race... John Fischer (Hus) won the Lonesome Pine Enduro in Abingdon, Virginia, with a score of 971.
