LOCAL TALENT Rainbow Canyon Motocross Track: Austin Parr (65) won both the 85cc Stock (12-15) and 85cc Open classes In Elgin, Nevada. TERRY WALKER BIIITHDATEI •• September 26, 1967 RESIDENCE: • • • • • Naples. Florida ChIlD INIERE5IS: •• Mountain Biking, Rainbow Canyon Motocross Track Kellett Catches Up By DICK GOODWIN ELGIN,NV, SEPT. 28 Honda hotshoe Kyle Kellett used that old -I'm right behind you no matter who is winning" strategy to earn himself the overall 125cc Novice title while racing at Rainbow Canyon Motocross Track in Elgin. Nevada, Kyle found himself staring at the north end of the southbound Jason Lopez as race one got under way. Beginner blasters Dave Ramey and Jake Poole were railing in third and fourth. Lopez, out in front, wasted little time stretching his lead, as Kellett settled into a solid second, Behind them, things were wild and woolly, as Ramey, Bryce Menzies, Poole, Billy Guedry and Jon Ellis were all balled up in a snarling pack for third, Lopez flipped on the afterburners and lit out for home, winning part one with ease, Kellett kept his big lead to finish second, and Menzies emerged from the wars to claim third, Lopez blasted to his second straight holeshot as moto two fired up, Kellett was leading Frank Iovino and Ramey in a chase after the leader. Iovino made a move in the back section to grab second, It looked like Lopez's day until he went down, gifting Iovino with the lead, and Kellett was in second again, Iovino went on to win this round, but it was Kellett, with two solid runner-up finishes, who took the overall 125cc Novice crown, Guedry finished third, and his come-from-behind score netted him the 125cc Beginner trophy, besting Menzies and Ramey. The Junior cycles were going at it on Saturday as well. Robert Campbell used a late surge to pile out in front of Brett Proctor and Chase Krumme as race action began. Campbell held it on and opened up a lead, Proctor was racing solidly in second, Campbell cruised, capturing the first contest, with Proctor second. Campbell uncorked a monster holeshot to start the second half, with Proctor once again chasing. Campbell's blazing speed wasn't leaving any room for anyone to challenge him, as he nailed his second straight victory and the overall 65cc (9-11) title, ahead of Proctor. Krumme came through in the 65cc Beginner race. Results PfW: I. ChrIs DeFlIlco (KTM). 65 BEQ: I. Ch~ Kturnrne (KlIw). 65 STK (9·1]): 1. Rob~rt ClImpb~lI (KTM); 2. Br~n Proctor (KTM). 85 BEQ: I.
