Compa was in total control of the 250cc Intennecliates and cruised to victory, leaving a great battle behind him involVing Paul Johnson, Scott Shane and Bob Hadley, who would finish in that order. The Collegeboy class was loaded with talent, and Compa was put to the test of running with some of the Expert riders. Tony Robinson was flying out front, leaving Compa to fight off determined Canadian KX rider Brad Dixon and local racer John Mason. Compa rode hard and smart to take second overall. with Dixon third. Robinson made the honorable mention list for his three-class effort on the day. He won the College boy and 125cc Pro classes and also placed third in the 250cc Pro class, eaming a big chunk of change. Kyle McConnell pushed his Suzuki hard in the 125cc Novice and 125cc Junior classes and earned the overall in both to win the sec· ond-place Jon Leak Pride Award. McConnell has won the Pride Award the previous two years. Jacob Behringer won the 50cc (7-8) and 65cc (8-9) classes, which earned him the third-place Pride Award. This year, two Sportsmanship awards were given out in honor of former SVR members. The Dan Maas Sportsmanship Award was won by Allen Jones; the very likable KX rider took wins in both the 85cc (12-15) and Supermini classes, and is always a thrill to watch out on the track. Kimberly Kocher took home the Dave Hoenbrink Sportsmanship Award for her great rides in the Women's and Supermini classes. Kimberly had high expectations in the Women's class, where she had a great battJe with Kelsie Bemholtz and Teala Keller in both motos. In moto two, Kocher had the early lead, with Bemholtz putting on the pressure, while Keller was a solid third. Bernholtz made her move past Kocher's Kawasaki on the final lap and held it to the finish for the overall win. Kocher bounced back to battle with the boys in the Supermini class, where she took a secure second place overall to earn the sportsmanship award. UFO rider John Kidd Jr. was also a double-class winner, taking the 250cc Pro win over Jake Davis and Robinson, and pushed his YZ thumper to the Vet Over 25 victory, over Joe Lewis and Cory Mason. Headman took wins in the '70s Singles class and finished first on his 750cc Yamaha in the Combined Class, which featured four riders in four classes. In the '70s Singles contest, Headman got out in front of Larry Weiss, Bill Reynolds and Mark Fillebrown. Reynolds got by W~iss on the third lap and started pounding on the leader. Headman held him off, while Reynolds tried a desperate move for the win off the final tum, only to do a doughnut when he lost traction, moving everyone up one. The Combined contest saw Headman leading his mentor, Weiss, followed by Melvin Brown and Terry Waite. After the first lap, the field stayed evenly spaced to the end. The Over 50 event, strangely, had all the riders on 750s, led by Mike Keane, Weiss (again), Brown and Joe Reynolds. Weiss seemed a little quicker than Keane, but Keane was guarding the low line with a passion. Weiss tried to take the outside line in the later stages of the race but couldn't get by Keane. While Larry Weiss wasn't entered in the fourth class, the 250cc Sportsman event, another Weiss was - Larry's brother Ken. Bill MacQueen put his quick Can-Am in front of Ken Weiss and Waite right at the start. Ken stayed close in the early going, but MacQueen started to pull away. 7;00 AM 11/212002 By lEN BREECH 11/212002 1:00AM MotoGP Wo~d C'ship - Valencia Grand Pnx Speed 11/312002 12:00 PM MOloGP 250 - Valencia Speed 11/312002 1:00 PM MoloGP Wo~d C'ship - Valencia Grand Prix Speed 11/5/2002 12:00 AM Bike Week - Dave Despain, host Speed 11/5/2002 12:30 AM Motorcyclist Speed 11/5/2002 1:00AM MotoGP 250 - Valencia Grand Prix Speed 11/5/2002 2:00AM MotoGP Wo~d C'ship - Valencia Grand Pnx Speed 11I5l2OO2 3:00AM MotoGP 125 - Australia Grand Prix Speed 1115/2002 8:00AM Legends of Motorsports - Golden Mountain 1961 Speed 1115/2002 10:00 AM Legends of Motorsport - Grand Prix de France - 1959 Speed 11/5/2002 2:00 PM FIM WondSupersporl - Imola Speed 11/5/2002 3:00 PM MotoGP 125 - Malaysian Grand Prix Speed 11/5/2002 6:00 PM MotoWo~d 11/5/2002 7;00 PM Bike Week - Dave Despain, host 11/5/2002 7:30 PM Motorcyclist Speed ESPN2 Speed 11/5/2002 8:00 PM MotoGP 250 - Valencia Grand Prix Speed 11/5/2002 9:00 PM MotoGP World C'shlp - Valencia Grand Prix Speed Speed 11/5/2002 10:00 PM MotoGP 125 • Australia Grand Prix 11/5/2002 11;00 PM Corbin's Ride On - Freedom Rally Speed 11/5/2002 11:30 PM American Thunder - Beverly Hills Charity Bike Show Speed Me Smith !ops Hilltoppers By MARK BUCHANAN UNIONTOWN, IN, OCT. 6 A small turnout of 125 riders showed up for the first Hoosier Hilltoppers race of the fall season.
