GFI/AMP Fall Series Round 3: Hollister Hills GP Track By Swann eventually went down, handing the lead over to Baxter. However, Baxter had Rodriguez hot on his tail, and on the white-flag lap, Rodriguez made a do-or-die pass on a tough off-camber right-hander. Around the outside, Rodriguez fought for traction and just made it by, eventually taking the win. Baxter followed up with second on the day with a 3-2 showing, while Swann rebounded for the third spot with a 1-7 posting. Mumma (5-4) and Pete Kasten (7-3) rounded out the top five. DH Cycles/JN Innovations-backed Corey McDaniel put in another solid effort in the 125cc Intermediate class, taking a 1- 1 score for the overall over class rival Eric McCrummen. Their rivalry has turned into a classic battle every week, as both riders possess nearly the same speed and talent. While McDaniel got the jump early on in both motos, McCrummen battled McDaniel all the way to checkers in moto two. Missing from the field and normally running with the fast duo was Charlie Morrison. For the second week in a row, Morrison fought the crash demons and was never a threat for the lead. McCrummen (2-2) was second overall. In the third hole was Tony Sherman, who put in a strong 3-4 effort on the day, followed by Casey Hinson (6-5) and Morrison (10-3). In Supermini action, Kyle Kent edged out Beau Weigand for the win. Similar to McDaniel and McCrummen in the 125cc Intermediate class, both riders have set the pace in the Mini ranks. While Weigand claimed the first Supermini moto victory after getting by Kent early on, Kent utilized a holeshot in moto two and took a wire-to-wire victory, with Weigand following up in the two spot. Brad Kelly (5-3), Buck Ford (3-5) and Luke Layton (8-4) rounded out the top five. Layton put in a pair of solid rides in the 80cc Intermediate class, taking the victory over Kent. Brandes put on a pair of disappearing acts, running away from the field in both motos and winning by nearly half a lap in each. Though the holeshots went to Paul Temmerman in moto one and Jeff Pestana in moto two, Brandes made quick work of both riders by the second tum. From there on out, Brandes gained seconds every lap as he went on to take the victories. Yamaha of Modesto/TMR/O'Neal pilot Craig Truglio put together a 3-2 effort after a pair of midpack starts. He and Pestana battled in both motos; while Pestana finished ahead in the first one, Truglio dogged him in moto two, eventually making the pass on lap five of 10. Pestana (2-3) took third on the day, while Dennis Stapleton (5-4) and Chris Loredo (4-6) rounded out the top five. For Joey Rodriguez, it was another consistent day of racing in the 250cc Intermediate class. He clawed his way forward in both motos to take the overall. After posting a solid win last week, the All American of Santa Cruz/No TOil/.IRS-backed rider returned this weekend and put in a 2-1 effort on the day. In moto one, Rodriguez started fifth while Yamahamounted Arik Swann checked out on the field early on. However, Rodriguez was on the gas, and by midrace it had tumed into a battle for the lead. Swann hung tough for the win, while Rodriguez made a few mistakes on the white-flag lap and placed second. followed by Zac Baxter. In moto two, Robby Baptista snagged the holeshot, ahead of Baxter' Dave Mumma, Swann and Rodriguez, but both Baptista and (Left! Kent rebounded in moto two with a victory, but it was Layton in second, and his 1-2 effort sealed the deal. Kent followed up with a 5-1 showing, while Justin Enos (3-3), Weigand (2-4) and Kelly (4-8) rounded out the top five. Trevor Allred pulled a double-class win on the day, taking the overall in the 60cc Open and 60cc Novice classes. A pair of moto wins did the trick in the 60cc Open class, as Matthew Sanchez followed up with a 3-2 score on the day for second overall, followed by Jared Thinger (2-3), Aaron Williams (4-4) and Blake Krekelberg. In the 60cc Novice class, Allred and Thinger split wins, with Allred going 2-1 on the day for the overall while Thinger snagged the runner-up spot with a 5-1 tally. Sanchez (3-3), Chris Spiers (2-4) and Zach McFarland (5-4) rounded out the top five.
