Westhafer finished both motos with 16 riders
behind him for J-I finishes and the overall
win. Davin Barela finished 2-2 in the motos for
second, and Pat Smith's 4-3 finishes got him
third place.
The 250cc Beginner class matched the
125cc Beginners, with 17 competitors. Jake
Kloos took first in the first moto, followed by
Jarrod Hall. In the second moto, Hall beat
Kloos, and his 2-1 moto finishes bested Kloos'
1-2 finishes for first place overall. Ryan Knoper's more-consistent 6-3 moto finishes (compared to the rest of the field) was good enough
for third.
Historically, the 80cc Beginner class is
usuaJly the largest division at most racetracks,
including the NOMADs track. but more of the
faster Beginner~c1ass riders are moving up to
the 80cc Novice class. The 17 80cc Beginner
riders tied with the number of racers in the
125cc and 250cc Beginner classes. Adam
Lohse got the win in the first moto, followed
by Anthony Soto and Donny Brzuchalski, but
Brzuchalski came back to win the second
moto. Lohse finished second behind him, and
Lohse's 1-2 moto finishes combined for three
points, whereas Brzuchalski's 3-1 finishes
combined for four points, so Lohse went home
with the first-place trophy. Soto finished fourth
in the second moto for a combined points
total of six, giving him the next-lowest score,
behind Brzuchalski, and third overall.
Sierrll Vista loeaI Pro Thomas Stuckey was
joined by another local Pro, Mike Calhoun, in
the Pro class. Stuckey finished second in the
first moto and first in the second moto for the
overall win. Justin McMurich recorded 1-3
moto fmishes for second. Dan Bonham's 3-2
finishes was good enough for third, and Calhoun got fourth. Ryan Wilson, the professional
motocross racer from Tucson who won the
Pro class at the first Heat/Freeze MX round,
was not present.
NOMADs secretary/treasurer Dave Suitts
was pleased with Sunday's race.
"Things went really, really smooth this
time," Suitts said. "We had... only one semiserious aCcident, lind we were done by 4 p.m."
