AHRMA Western Regional Vintage MX Series Round 10: Willow Creek Motocross Park SHOOTOUT in the High Desert Can-Am rider Randy Skiver (835) scored the Over 50 Expert and Classic 125cc Expert wins at the 10th round of the AHRMA Westem Regional Vintage MX Series. Skiver, the former Castle Rock IT Grand National winner, first posted a win in the Classic 125cc Expert class, using a Penton-framed, Honda-powered machine to finish with a 1-1 tally and lead Suzuki riders Russ Wyant and Mike Falcioni overall. Skiver came back several motos later aboard a 1974 Can-Am 250 to also notch a win in the Over 50 Expert class - also using a 1-1 tally to win overall - finishing ahead of Oregonians Bill Rowand Tom Street to finalize his double-class decimation. Row, a dominant performer this year in the AHRMA/Speed & Sport National Series, also went four for four in his two overall wins, first picking up an overall win in the Sportsman 500cc Expert class while riding his 1973 CZ 400. While Row easily captured both moto wins, the battle for second went to the wire between local Honda rider Aaron Hohman and Californian Chris Wilkes; the position finally went to the rider from nearby Bend, Hohman. In the adjoined 500cc Intermediate class, Yamaha riders Toby Young and Michitsch split moto wins in one of STORV AND PHOTOS BV ClAV LIGHT ~RAS,OR,OCT.6 large amount of riders drifted into town for round 10 of the AHRMA Western Regional Vintage Motocross Series, although only a handful achieved the pinnacle of success on the high desert. Californians Tom McKinney and Curt Michitsch, Oregon's Jim Row, and Washington's Randy Skiver were double-class winners at Willow Creek Motocross Park. This event also doubled as the final round of the Northwest Maico & CZ Northwest Lumberjack Series. McKinney, who came armed with a pair of Husqvarnas, scored the overall Sportsman 250cc and Over 40 Expert-class wins. In a three-class effort, Row posted the Sportsman 500cc and Open Age Expert-class victories. Skiver, a former National IT and road race veteran, snared the Classic 125cc and Over 50 Expertclass wins. Michitsch, who also contested three classes on the day, won the competitive Sportsman 250cc and Open Age Intermediate classes. A the day's largest classes. Young used a 1-2 punch to top the field and hand Michitsch his' only overall loss of the day. Michitsch (3-1), Scott Blaze (2-4), Donnie Wilson (4-3) and Scott Smith (5-7) filled out the top five overall. Row would also dominate both Open Age Expert-class matos, leading Wilkes in both matos, to end his day on a positive note. The only downside to Row's day would come while riding his dad's 1977 Husky 360 in the Historic class; after breaking a chain, he recorded a DNF. Michitsch manhandled the Intermediate portion of the Open Age division, acing both motos. CZ-mounted Californian Terry Bentley used a 3-2 tally to trail Michitsch overall, while Smith (2-6) finished third. Row wasn't the only dominant Expert rider on the day, as McKinney, who had in the day's opening motos breezed to 1-1 wins in the Sportsman 250cc Expert class, ahead of Wilkes, did a similar number on the Over 40 class. Tom Bentley, one of the three racing members of the Bentley family, used a Maico to trail McKinney and finished second overall, ahead of another Californian, Mike Bast. Michitsch's day was complete after he posted a win in the competitive Sportsman 250cc Intermediate class, beating Terry Bentley and local Honda rider Cody Sprague to capture his fifth moto win of the day and end the day with a pair of wins and a runner-up finish. David Germain has consistently been the fastest Northwest rider in the competitive Sportsman 125cc Expert class this year, but on this day, things (Left) Nicole Sprague captured the overall win in the combined Women's Intermediate! Californians Steve Gibson and Ryan Bast . (both also aboard Hondas) put an end to Germain's domination, as Gibson handily won both motos and Bast (2-2) finished second. The day's largest tumouts came in the combined Sportsman 250cc and 500cc Novice classes. Husqvarna rider Tom Owens had little trouble taking his double-moto wins of the class, leaving Terry Dale and Don Housley to duke it out behind him for much of both motos. The TM 400mounted Housley finished second overall. In the 250cc portion, Tim Bentley clobbered the competition, edging Oregon's Mike Caruso for the overall win.
