K&N Filters Del Mar Motorcycle Weekend Concours d'Elegance and Motorcycle Expo to the motorcycles that they may have only seen in magazines - and many they haven't. Bigger and more diverse than in previous years, the Concours d'EJegance spilled over into the mainentrance courtyard, which featured a greater number of custom motorcycles than ever. Another change was the inclusion of the Vincent, Ariel and other classic and vintage motorcycle clubs within the finely groomed courtyards of the Del Mar Clubhouse grounds. Outside, the Expo was also expanded. In addition to the manufacturers, many smaller vendors were represented. Former AMA National Trials Champion Geoff Aaron was back with his Extreme Racing Entertainment trials demonstration, as was MD Productions and its freestyle MX show. For those with a taste for something less finished or polished, there was the indoor swap meet, where you might find a part you need for that DEL MAR, CA, .5 T he 2002 K& Del Mar Motorcycle Weekend kic d off with the annual Concours d'Elegance, Bike Expo and Swap Meet, and it was easy to see how for many this is always the highlight of the weekend. For the exhibitors, the Expo always offers the chance to share with others the fruits of their labors and the product of hundreds or even thousands of hours spent painstakingly constructing or restoring a special two-wheeled machine. For the veteran enthusiasts, it's a chance to relive fond memories of a simpler time or to catch up with old friends. For others, Del Mar offers a muchanticipated opportunity to stand close classic bike you've been restoring, or a back issue of Cycle News. All of this while the Vintage racers of the Eddie Mulder West Coast Vintage Dirt Track Series were thundering around the mile track and, when the sun got low in the sky, the best dirt-track racers in the world were warming up for the Formula USA/Drag Specialties Skip Van Leeuwen National Short Track on the night before they would take their turn on the mile for the K&N Filters Del Mar Mile. What a way to spend a weekend, huh? eN
