to the motorcycles that they may
have only seen in magazines - and
many they haven't.
Bigger and more diverse than in
previous years, the Concours d'EJegance spilled over into the mainentrance courtyard, which featured a
greater number of custom motorcycles
than ever. Another change was the
inclusion of the Vincent, Ariel and
other classic and vintage motorcycle
clubs within the finely groomed courtyards of the Del Mar Clubhouse
grounds.
Outside, the Expo was also
expanded. In addition to the manufacturers, many smaller vendors were
represented. Former AMA National
Trials Champion Geoff Aaron was

d off with the
annual Concours d'Elegance, Bike
Expo and Swap Meet, and it was easy
to see how for many this is always
the highlight of the weekend.
For the exhibitors, the Expo
always offers the chance to share
with others the fruits of their labors
and the product of hundreds or even
thousands of hours spent painstakingly constructing or restoring a special two-wheeled machine. For the
veteran enthusiasts, it's a chance to
relive fond memories of a simpler
time or to catch up with old friends.
For others, Del Mar offers a muchanticipated opportunity to stand close
classic bike you've been restoring, or
a back issue of Cycle News. All of
this while the Vintage racers of the
Eddie Mulder West Coast Vintage Dirt
Track Series were thundering around
the mile track and, when the sun got
low in the sky, the best dirt-track racers in the world were warming up for
the Formula USA/Drag Specialties
Skip Van Leeuwen National Short
Track on the night before they would
take their turn on the mile for the
K&N Filters Del Mar Mile.
What a way to spend a weekend,
huh?
