Oregon State Motocross Championship Series Rounds 3-4: Albany Motorsports Park (Left) KTM rider Pete Sannan was the weekend's top performer, posting wins In the Schoolboy, 125cc and Before The Hill Intermediate classes on each of the two consecutive days of racing at the Oregon State Motocross Championships in Albany, Oregon. (Right) Ryan Thompson dominated the 250cc Intermediate class at Albany Motorsports Park, winning both with 1-1 sweeps. Thompson. Thompson led the way in moto one, followed by White, Intermediate Garrett Melton, Shayne Strigle and Corbin Arnold. Moto two was much the same: Thompson dropped early leader Melton to second place right off the bat; Thompson then sped away to victory, capping off his 1-1 sweep. Melton trailed Thompson to finish second overall in the Intermediate portion, while White, the overall Proclass winner, third-placed Intermediate Strigle, Arnold, and Pro rider Meadows filled out the top six. Yamaha rider Bryar Perry's visits to the Northwest have been infrequent but, despite his lack of familiarity with the track, the 13-year-old was one of the day's key players. Perry posted a pair of overall wins on Saturday, netting the 80cc (12-13) and Supermini victories. Perry and Kawasaki rider Curtis Sweezey went head to head in the two classes, with Perry coming out on top of both. Sweezey's best performance came during the first Supermini moto, in which he edged Perry for a win. Perry came back to win moto two and won his second of two overall wins on the day. Jared Wood scored the 80cc (7 -11) win and Ajay Olinger won the 80cc (14-16) class. On Sunday, Chris Alldredge nabbed a pair of overall wins to cap off a sweep of the 50cc (4-6) and 50cc Open classes on both days. The Cobra-mounted rider from Redmond was among the few double-class winners on the day. KTM rider Cory Patterson, who earlier had won the 50cc (7-8) class overall, trailed Alldredge to the finish in the 50cc Open class, while Aaron Blaine, Nolan Beyer and Brayden Massey filled out the top five. Other double-class winners included Mike Horban (in the 125cc and Four-Stroke Junior classes) and Danny Costa (in the Before The Hill and 250cc Junior classes). The 15-year-old Albany resident was impressive while taking wins in the Schoolboy, 125cc and Before The Hill Intermediate classes, while fellow Oregonian Tyler Fick scored a pair of overall Pro-class victories at round three on Sunday. . Sannan had tough competition from arch rivals Ryan Huege and Ryan Thompson, but Huege's weekend went awry early on, as the Honda rider took a nasty tumble during practice and decided to call it a weekend. Sannan's first win came in Saturday's Before The Hill Intermediate class, in which he handily snared both moto wins, despite racing against several Pro riders in the combined Four-Stroke Pro class. One of those Pros, Devin Watson, was Sannan's closest competition, trailing the KTM rider to the finish in each outing. Watson, Sannan and Thompson squared off in the highly competitive 125cc Pro/Intermediate contest, although the outcome was much the same as it was earlier - in Sannan's favor. Thompson got the jump on the field at the start of moto two, but Sannan got around the southern Oregon speedster to take a lead he'd not relinquish. Thompson finished second, which was good for second overall, while behind the duo was a battle for the Pro-class win, which Watson netted, ahead of Jack Meadows. Thompson's day, however, wasn't a total wash, as he dominated the combined 250cc Pro/Intermediate contest. Another local rider, Aaron McClinton, was the top performer in the 80cc (12-13) class, while Wood, for the second day in a row, was the winner of the 80cc (7-11) class. Sannan was again the dominant figure, first posting a win in the Schoolboy class. Sannan stretched out big leads in both motos, despite riding with an injured wrist. Yamaha rider Horban trailed Sannan to the finish in moto one and won the combined Four-Stroke Amateur class. Honda rider Nick Randklev used a 2-1 tally to top the third of the three combined classes, the Before The Hill Junior portion, via a 2-1 tally, ahead of Ross Miller and Brad Batchelor. Fick was the fastest gun in the Professional classes on Sunday, scoring the 125cc and 250cc wins, beating Watson in the 125cc class and Washington's Greg Crater in 250cc action, winning all four motos. eN A1blny MatDrsports Psrll Albany, Oregon Results: September 28-29, 2002 (Rounds 3-4J Saturday P/W (4-6): 1.
