GSX·R1000
The undisputed horsepower king in
its class, Suzuki's flagship GSXR1000 has received numerous
improvements that should see it
remain as a serious contender for the
Open Sportbike throne.
The GSX-R's DOHC 988cc inline
four has been upgraded via the addition of new ventilation holes between
adjacent cylinders to better relieve
intemal crankcase pressure and equalize pressure under the pistons. Oiling is
also improved, thanks to new intemal

ith its GSX-R line of repli-racers,
Suzuki has perennially provided
the target upon which the competition
draws a bead in the sportbike world.
Just when it seemed that the bar
couldn't be raised any further, Suzuki
unleashed its all-new GSX-R1000 two
years ago and cleaned house in the
Open Sportbike class. The category
hasn't been the same since.
For '03, the mighty Gixxer grande
is back in seriously retooled fashion,
Suzuki appearing to address the sus-

pension and braking gripes of the
previous version while shaving weight
and adding power to boot.
SV1000
Elsewhere, Suzuki has seen fit to
provide its popular SV650 and 650S
with a bigger playmate in the form of
the new SV1000 and SV1000S, the
650 versions receiving a host of
updates gleaned from the new 1000's
development process. If that wasn't
