Honey Lake Motocross Park Lash Out in Front Honey Lake Motocross Parte Donnie Cantalouplleads fellow Vet Pro riders Tim Nobles and Greg King en route to the overall win for the weekend, as well as the series win in his class, in Milford, California. Lash's accomplishments in his motos were only exceeded' by his championship win in the 250cc Pro class. In the entire season, Lash has only lost three motos at Honey Lake - an awesome feat at a track renowned for its degree of physical challenge, Other championship winners included Ty Siminoe, Dakota May, Tyler York, George Stephenson III, Anthony Pulera, Ron McCoy, Eric Schacht, and the elusive Donnie Cantaloupi. Among the awesome prizes were two full sets of Fox riding gear, and, courtesy of Pro Circuit, two $500 gift certificates. Honey Lake expressed thanks to all the sponsors and especially to all the competitors, without whom the success of the Summer Series would not have been possible. Results 50 (4-6): I. K.J. MILFORD, CA, SEPT, 1-2 In true motocross style, the final and deciding round of the HLMXP's Summer Series rolled around. To spice things up a bit, track owner Larry Wosick decided to make it a doublepoints round. It stilt stood as anyone's championship, even at this point, so nobody held back, as each motocrosse.r was after a piece of glory (and one of the prizes, which totaled nearly $10,0001), In the 250cc Pro class, track regular Kenny Lash was forced to put his talents to the test by 16-year-old Jimmy Nelson from Battle Mountain, Nevada, In the first mota, Lash absconded with the holeshot and immediately found himself putting his knowledge of the track to work, giving himself an early lead. Lash's four-stroke gave him the advantage he needed on the monstrous uphill; leading the first lap, he seemed to have mota one in the bag, as, while Nelson had closed the gap between himself and Lash, he couldn't find the opening he needed to pass. The two came bearing down on Clubhouse Comer, and Nelson was spoon-fed his newfound lead when Lash came down hard after misjudging the berm, sending his Honda nose-first into the dirt, This opened the floodgates for the rest of the 250cc class, and Lash remounted in last place. Determined to show Honey Lake is his domain. Lash proceeded to reel in the competition and gained enough positions to cross the finish line in second place. In mota two, Lash again got the holeshot, and this time he was determined to redeem himself. The entire moto was one of switchoffs between the Yamaha and Honda riders. Approaching the scoring tower, Nelson used his momentum from the downhill and put pressure on the throttle and literally sneaked past Lash with an inside pass, Not to be outdone, Lash chose not to jump the tabletop and instead used this opportunity to gain speed and chose a wide outside pass on the straight before the double jumps; after regaining the lead, Lash reiterated his point by launching himself well above the bleachers as he cleared the triple, Lash held the front position for the remainder of the mota and again called himself the winner. 86 OCTOBER 2, 2002' cue • e 50 (7+): I. PELLETT NEW CONCORD, OH, SEPT, 2 Taking a weekend off from the rigors of an intense Amateur motocross racing schedule, Columbus, Ohio's Leadbeater brothers each took wins here at the Labor Day pit-bike race, round five of the East Coast Pit Bike Nationals. Normally accustomed to racing at larger n • ..,s events, Chris and Joey Leadbeater had a fun day off, as they both ran off with wins in their respective divisions. Joey, a national-level competitor in the 8xc classes, took his Kawasaki KLXIIO in for a convincing win in the Open Non-Clutch (17 and under) category, while his big brother Chris slung his leg over a Kawasaki and whipped up on the 80-150cc (17 and over) class. Both incredible riders recently returned from the AMA Loretta Lynn's Amateur National Motocross Championships, where Chris finished an impressive eighth in the 250cc B Modified class. In other racing action, the Washington. illinois-based Marsh clan drove all the way out to Ohio to win a couple of trophies.
