Brandon Barnes knew he was in trouble when Roberts got the holeshot in moto one of the 125cc Pro class. "Pete has a big advantage with the 250F," Bames said. "It pulls longer on the straigbt." With his advantage, and making time in the rhythm section, Roberts was going to be even tougher to beat. Barnes and Richje Kau· mo were keeping Roberts in sight, but they couldn't catch the smooth Roberts. As the moto ended, Roberts had a five-second lead on Barnes in second. Kaumo was third, with Boyd Foster fourth and Chad Wallwork working his way through the pack to take a hardearned fifth. Moto two found Barnes with an early lead, but with Roberts right on his rear fender. The two swapped places twice, with Roberts finally taking charge and pulling out a three-second win. Matt Bates put in a great ride, finishing third, with Foster again taking fourth. Roberts took the overall, with Barnes second and Foster third. Western Idaho Fairgrounds Rupert. SIC Stars Over Texas Night Series Round 4: Mosier Valley USA By BRIAN COMEAU c EULESS,TX,AUG.31 The STC Stars Over Texas Night Series made a trip north (as the previous rounds were all held in southern Texas) to the Dallas area for round four. The change of area brought with it different faces and different winners, as more than 300 entrants came out for some racing under the lights at Mosier Valley USA. One of those different winners was in the 125cc Beginner class. as Brice Barnes came away with the second-moto win and picked up the overall with it in a surprising tum of events. CurtIS Riley took the holeshot in the first 125cc Beginner moto. with Barnes and Jay Helbert in hot pursuit. Derek Russell was applying a lot of pressure to Helbert and he took over third before the end of the first lap, with Bryant Armstrong in fifth. Riley quickly put a four-second lead on Barnes halfway through the second lap, while Armstrong made the pass on Helbert to take over fourth. Riley and Barnes began to distance themselves from the field, while the action behind them began to heat up. Kyle Grisham came charging from out of the pack to catch the field and move into third. As the white flag came out, it was Riley and Barnes ahead of Grisham. Behind Grisham, a pack of riders five riders were circulating the track together, trading spots as they went. When the checkered flag came out, it was Riley with the win, with Barnes a few seconds back and Grisham in third. Fourth went to Grant Novak. and Brad McCullough picked up fifth. At the start of the second moto, a huge pile-up claimed a number of riders before they even made it to the first comer. Barnes managed to come away unscathed to take the holeshot and the early lead. Novak held down second, ahead of Brandon Machacek, while R.J. Morgan and Jeremy Faulkenberry were in fourth and fifth, respectively. Moments later, Faulkenberry found himself on the ground before the whoop section and would face the challenge of coming back from deep in the pack.
