area of southern Massachusetts. A total of 15 checks were used to score the event, which consisted of good, typical check-in/check-out sections. Rain was in the forecast for race day, but there was no precipitation until the end of the day, so race conditions were extremely dry and dusty. Much of the terrain consisted of rocks, stones, boulders and more rocks, leaving many competitors rattled and weary at day's end. The club, however, rewarded the top finishers with tombstone-style trophies made out of real granite. The start of the race led riders to Foxboro State Park, where they were greeted by rocks, rocks, and more rocks. A known control at 4.4 miles was the check-in for an II-mile test. Savvy rock riders like Hoess managed to drop only five points in this section, and the next-best scores were sixes, posted by Hines and exlocal hotshoe Eric McEacher. The second test came after a short free territory zone, with another known control at the 23-miJe mark to start riders off. This six-mile test consisted of singletrack trail and a smooth, sweet grasstrack, which was devoid of any rocks. Spectators were abundant at the track, watching racers wheelie from tum to tum. Hoess ripped this section up, as he was the only rider to score a three, coming across the check just before the flip with a 3.54. Next was Hines, with a 4.15, followed by McEachor at 4.23. Then came Barry Hawk on 4.28, and David Lykke with 4.30. The racing continued throughout the day, with check-in/check-outstyle enduro racing, finishing out with a I9-mile test at day's end. Hoess again topped the field with a nine to Hines' 11. Lykke and Hawk had I2s, but both were disqualified for having missed check seven. Local NETRA AA rider Raffi Peterson had an excellent ride, placing first overall among the local talent to finish fourth overall. Also, Colorado rider George Villanyi topped the A class with a 52 to take the A High Point tombstone. CN ling Phillip Big Stones Endure Wrentbnlll, MnSSllChuutts Raults: September 15, ZOOZ O/A: 1.
