• Mike Sin weltat,..,;;;:.;;:~ Elkhart to finish see""o~n::d=-==,;; overall with a wln and a fJfth-place finish. ' Ady Smith (441) finished the day fourth overall on his KTM, turning In 6-2 finishes. Sunday rolled around and the organizers had dampened down the dirt. It's inclusion saw a number of riders on their heads throughout practice, but most had gotten a handle on it by the time the races started up for real. The Premier class on Sunday included the two imported Brits Steele and Ady Smith - but in a nonpoint-scoring capacity. Smith led the race on his factory replica 660 KTM until the final lap, with Carlson dogging his wheel tracks over every single inch of the raceway. Going into the final lap, (the non-scoring) Smith pulled to one side to allow Carlson to take the checkers, with Scott Diedrich putting his CRF450R onto the final podium spot. Diedrich also went on to take the top spot in the hotly contested middleweight class, chased home by former speedway racer Paul Orlandi and YZ426F pilot Matthew Pursley. The final SuperBikers2jMotomaster USA Orange Rotor Pro race of the weekend was all set up to be a classic, and it didn't disappoint. Off the gate, Ady Smith pulled the holeshot and looked set to motor away from the chasing pack. Somebody forgot to read the script to Bagnis, though. and the west coast rider picked his way through the top five to get onto Ady Smith's rear wheel within a couple of laps. The spectators were then treated to an epic tussle between the two riders. Bagnis repeatedly slicing his Honda underneath the British rider's larger-engined Katoom, and then Ady Smith using his finesse on the dirt to sneak back into the lead. Just behind the two leaders, Russell, Carlson, Mike Smith and Vertematimounted Brit Warren Steele were going head to head in a four-way scrap over the final podium spot. With three laps left, Ady Smith's soft front tire cried "enough," and when Bagnis made a move under him, there was nothing Smith could do to retaliate. Bagnis went on to take the win, with the KTM rider nursing his fried front tire across the line to take second place. Behind them, young Carlson got the better of his more-experienced peers to take third. Steele grabbed the fourth spot, ahead of battling brothers-in-law Scott RusCN sell and Mike Smith.
