the team's Suzuki TL 1000. Stoffer returned to the track at the U.S. Nationals last month, and with all of four races under her belt, found herself in her first-career final round at Reading. Earlier in the day, Stoffer helped decided the points battle in Savoie's favor as she defeated Craig Treble's Matco Tools Suzuki in round two, 7.35 to 7.39, effectively ending Treble's bid for the championship. Stoffer made it to the final after 19-year-old rookie Andrew Hines fouled in the semifinals. A round earlier, Hines scored the biggest round win of his young career when he defeated his older brother, Matt, the three-time series champ. "' was not nervous at all this weekend: Stoffer said. "We've just been concentrating on making good runs and, so far, it's working. I've only got seven really good passes on this bike, but I already feel pretty comfortable. Craig and I have raced together for many years [in the sportsman series], and I know him well. Getting to race against him in Pro Stock, and then running Angelle in the final, sort of made me feel like my career has come full-circle." Treble, who won four races and put up a valiant fight all season, was gracious even as he conceded the title to Savoie and the Star Team. "I hate that it ended this way, but I think we can still hold our heads high," Treble said. "Against Karen, we had a problem with our vacuum pump and we slowed way down. It's not the first time that Karen and I have raced, and I absolutely was cutting her zero slack. She used to whip me pretty regularly in the sportsman series, and I know exactly what she is capable of. In fact, this is just her fourth race, and she ain't blossomed yet. As soon as that team gets their bike figured out, she will be a major pain for all of us, including Angelle." With 27 wins over her seven-year career, Savoie does well at most tracks on the NHRA tour, but she has a special affinity for Maple Grove Raceway. Savoie won her first race there in 1996, and has compiled an enviable 22/3 win/loss record at the facility . "This track has always been special to me," Savoie said. "This track is usually very fast, and we were hoping to make the first six-second Pro Stock Bike run this weekend, but the weather just wouldn't cooperate. There is a S 10,000 bonus up for the first six, and I'd sure like to be the one to do it, but that's a goal we can save for another day. The championship was the important thing, and now that it is just about over, I can relax a little." eN October 18 - 20, 2002 Larry Joe Harless community Center, Gilbert, West Virginia Poker Run· Mud Pit Pig Roast· Bonfire Buffet Breakfast and so much more!
