Path Valley Speedway Mees Mauls Path Valley ST Bv LEI'! BREECH SPRING RUN, PA, AUG. 31 After a scheduled weekend off, Jared Mees continued his charge to the Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance title, showing the locals he's still the one to beat on his Moroney's Harley·Davidson/Michael's H·D Classics· sponsored machines. Shawn Baer led the 600cc A finals in the early laps, while Mees took the lead right away in the Sportsman and 250cc A finals. Baer put his Battlefield Harley-Davidson/BRP-sponsored Retax in front of Mees, with the remainder of the field already several lengths back. As they started the third lap, Mees shot into the lead and quickly pulled to a seven-length lead. On this high-banked quarter-mile oval, a good-running 250 is as fast as a big, booming Rotax, especially if it gets a lead. Mees made sure that didn't happen, as he led off the second turn, in front of Baer, Chris Klinefelter, Bob Sweeten and John Lewis, all on 250s. While Mees cruised in front, Baer, Klinefelter, Sweeten and Lewis raced under the proverbial blanket for most of the race. Klinefelter took second on the fourth lap, only to toss his chain on the last lap. In the 250cc A final, Mees was astride a two-stroke, and he again took the lead from Klinefelter, Baer and Lewis. On lap two, Lewis took third as the pair battled hard for the remainder of the race. They crossed the line almost side by side, with Klinefelter taking second. Mark Stambaugh got involved in two close finals, losing a close 500cc Two-Valve battle to Nick Taylor and edging Rick Pfanders for the 600cc B win. In the 500cc Two-Valve contest, Stambaugh held the inside line, as he and Taylor circled the track side by side. Just past halfway, Taylor slipped to the inside line and gradually took the lead. just holding off Stambaugh. Pfanders took the 600cc B lead from Stambaugh, Bill Boram and Bob Hildebrand. Stambaugh used the outside to take the lead on the third lap, but Pfanders retook the lead two laps later. On the following lap, Stambaugh regained the lead for lhe final time. Derek Hersh took the 65cc lead from Tyler Kidwell, Hayden Avery and Josh Standiford. The front three stayed very close, with Kidwell hammering on Hersh, On the fifth lap, Kidwell took the lead off the second tum, with Hersh staying close to the end. Danny Bromley put his Bromley's Suzuki/KTM-sponsored KTM out in front of the 50cc Oil-Injected class, almost lapping thirdplaced Kyle Schlimme by the end. Aaron Klinedinst was a distant second. In the 50cc (4-8) final, Bromley again was out in front, but Schlimme stayed close the entire way, almost snatching the win off the final tum. Matthew Young, Brad Phillips and Josh Tyeryar ran nose to tail during the first half of the 250cc B fina!. Phillips took the lead on the second lap, but a couple of laps later Phillips ,.--------------------------=-~
