Libhart, on a Harley-Davidson, started from the far right and came out of the hole really well, but he had to back off after the first jump to get lined up and rolled to the lights in 10.297 seconds to end the round. Mason was not able to improve with his second try, but his first-round time was good enough for fifth overall. Like Disbennett in the 540cc class, Strank decided to ride in order, while the hill was relatively smooth. He had an excellent start... "The bike almost got out from under on the bottom, but I caught up with it and when I landed off the first jump, it was flying," he said. "I saw that rock that sticks out coming at me on the second jump, so I feathered the clutch to get the front end up and it carried it over the rock. Then it just kept picking up speed, just like last year. I knew it was a fast run." Fast it was, as it put him into the lead. Disbennett also put together a great run on his Triumph. "Man, what a ride," Disbennett said. "I had to feather the throttle off the bottom because it was wheelying, but the rest of the ride was great. When I got to the top, I thought I had caught Tiger, but I was .07 slower than it felt." All eyes were on Watson as he came up to the line, and he blistered the bottom part of the hill. "I stayed low over the jump, but I was headed right for that big rock on the left," Watson said. "I tried to clear it, but my rear wheel hit and it flattened my tire, and almost stopped me dead. It's been a pretty good day, though." Rodney Williams saved his best for last, running a solid 9.881 to finish behind Watson in fourth. Then Libhart had problems after the second jump to seal Strank's third straight win. "It doesn't get any better than this, a threepeat," Strank said. "It took me three years to win back to back ... I can't believe we've won three in a row." eN Bushkill Vaney Me Nillclimb Slllel CIty, Pennsylvania Results: September 8, 2002 (Round 91 600: 1. Tiger Stnmk Jr. (Vern); 2. Chad Disbennett (Tri); 3.
