The series' newest sponsor, Red Bull, energized every one of the 171 racers and their pit crews with products as they signed up under the Maxxis Tires/A&A Racing EZ-Up. Many of the more than 20,000 rally attendees and more than 5000 grandstand entrants witnessed racing on this eighth-mile, deep- Butch Cochran (BOY) leads Marsh Runyon (22Y) en route to the Classic 500cc win at the Paso Robles Fairgrounds. cushioned oval. After the heat races, Mulder went up into the stands during intermission to sign autographs and gather donations toward the Pro-class purse, collecting over $400. With the $1000 added by Barnett Clutches, the total was nearly $2000. Marty Lewis, on a Panther-framed Triumph 750, led the field into turn one in the JRC Engineering Senior main. Steve Lacey ran second, with Dan Phillips third. Coming out of turn four on lap two, Phillips displaced Lacey for second. With five laps complete, Lewis encountered lapped traffic. Phillips joined Lewis as the white flag came out. At the checkered, Lewis prevailed by half a bikelength over Phillips. Lacey secured third. The crowd jumped to its feet as the Youth classes took to the track as the 50cc Berkeley Honda/Yamaha majn rolled out, fireworks went off! 56 SEPTEMBER 25, 2002ยท cue Tanner Simons was up front but was passed on the first trip down the back straight by fellow KTM rider Brandon Orr, who went on the win, over Simons and Thomas Stainbrook. The only double winner of the evening was Tyler Bereman. His first win was his easiest. In the Maxima 60cc main, Bereman bested Bobby Caldera and Jess Garcia. On the first attempt at the Motion Pro 80cc main, two riders fell down, causing a full restart. Stevie Bonsey led the 14-rider pack for the first lap. Bereman, all fired up from his 60cc victory, took the lead just after the stripe going into turn one. Joey Iffert, a heat-race winner, ran third, with Frankie Garcia fourth. Bonsey dropped out, advancing Iffert and Garcia to second and third. On his victory lap, Bereman carved out a 14-second lap time - on an 80! In the Brown's Cycles Dinosaur main, Brown's Cycles' own Danny Ritchie was the class of the field, putting the 1942 Indian up front, over Gordon Menzie, Marsh Runyon and Paul Herman. A large Vet class lined up for the Maxxis Tires/Saddlemen main. Clay Chambers shut the door on Greg Wilburn to lead the pack through turn one. Trapper M'cDaniel went high around the mess and came out in second. Brad Spencer was fourth. On lap two, Wilburn passed McDaniel and Chambers to take the lead. On lap four, entering turn one, Spencer put a move on Chambers and McDaniel as well and shot into second position. A lap later, Spencer had caught Wilburn. On lap six, Wilburn made a mistake in tum one, allowing Spencer into the lead. McDaniel pushed hard and moved into third, making the finishing order Spencer, Wilburn and McDaniel. Chris Rudy put his beautiful 1957 Harley Davidson KR up front in the Bartels'/Shoei Classic 500cc main, with Butch Cochran and David Brown in tow. Royal Enfield rider Gordon Menzie went down on the first lap. Cochran put his BSA into the lead on the second lap and never looked back. At the stripe, it stayed Cochran, Rudy and Brown. Last year's Works Performance 750cc main-event combatants Paul Herman and Greg Wilburn lined up side by side. Herrnan shot into the lead, with Wilburn and Jim Ottele in tow, only to have a red flag thrown as three riders went down behind them in turn one. The restart was a carbon copy, but after one lap Cochran Paul Herman (77), Randy Bereman (5Y), Rod Spencer (49), Jimmy Wood (66), Trapper McDaniel (50) and Joe Carrera (B6) launch off the start of the Bamett-sponsored Pro main at round three of Eddie Mulder's West Coa'st Vintage Dirt Track Series. moved Ottele back to fourth. Joe Carrera started in fifth but charged hard and worked his way up to third, making the final order Herman, Wilburn, Carrera, Scott Dunlavey and Ottele. Finally, it was time for the Barnett Pro majn. The 13 riders who transferred were staged for battle. At the drop of starter Ron Bereman's green flag, his son Randy shot into the lead. Pole sitter Paul Herman was left sitting on the line, rumored to have been in neutral. Randy appeared to have this one in the bag, but 15 laps is a long way to go. Six laps in, Rod Spencer, who also started from the front row, caught and passed Bereman for the lead. Eleven laps in, Rod's brother Brad (who started from the second row) caught Bereman as well. Tommy Carriger rode the wheels off his stock-framed Honda 450F and came home fourth. Last year's winner, Danny Ritchie, lost his machine just before the start and had to borrow whatever he could find running in under two minutes, went on to finish sixth. eN Pass IIaIIles-fsirgrouads Pass 1lall1es, Cellfemis Results: September 1, ZOOZ (huad 31 SR: 1.
