AMA Pacific Northwest Championship Series Round 5: Washougal Motocross Park Storm finished third after Carter's untimely last-lap crash dropped him to seventh. Conner4 and Page finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Suzuki rider Adam Metzler had a successful day in the 12Scc and 2S0cc C ranks and appears to be more than ready to move up to the next-highest classification. especially after his four-moto rampage in the two classes. Even despite a fall in the first 12Scc C moto. Metzler had enough steam to forge his way to the head of the pack and then easily win. 1:1III STORV AND PHOTOS BV CLAV liGHT WASHOOGAL,WA.Aoa.25 ~ MA National veterans Don Bis- ~ ceglia and Mike Corder clobbered the Pro-class competition at the final round of the five-round AMA Pacific Northwest Championship Series. held at Washougal Motocross Park. Bisceglia, who has more than 10 years of AMA National experience in the 2S0cc class, topped the 2S0cc and Over 30 Pro classes, while his fellow Oregonian Mike Corder aced both 12Scc Pro motos. Nearly SOO riders from four western states were on hand, vying for contingency money from Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Husqvarna. and several close series championship battles went down to the finish. Such was the case in the S1cc (7-8) class; Oregon's Brody Thorn and Washington's Kyle Huffman came into the final round a scant nine points apart. Thorn crashed in moto one and finished ninth, and Huffman won the moto. Huffman's best chances to garner the series title came via a moto-two shootout, as the two riders squared off with everything on the line. However. Thorn darted to the head of the field and remained there to the finish. KTM rider Tanner Berry was also in the title chase and separated Thorn and Huffman, although he eventually fell. Huffman narrowed the gap on Thorn as the laps clicked away but couldn't completely reel in the Cobra rider and the title went Thorn's way. Huffman did get the overall win on the day, followed by Cody Politte (33), Berry (2-S) and Thorn (9- 1). In the adjoined Slcc (4-6) class, Matthew Bisceglia swept both motos to win overall on the day and in the series. and Jordan Thibedeau did likewise in the Slcc (4-8) Oil-Injected class. The elder of the three racing Bis- W ceglia family members. Don (the other being Don's wife, Joni). walloped the competition in the Over 30 Pro class. putting his Suzuki well out in front of the field in both motos. Honda-mounted Roger Sherrell placed second to Bisceglia in both motos. but he did have Darryl Zumstein to deal with late in moto one. Zumstein. who perhaps has logged the most laps at the track. having been racing since 1973, moved up to challenge Sherrell at the finish but missed it by a wheel. Zumstein placed 3-3 for third. followed by Jay Jackson (S-4) and former National rider Mike Hamness (4-S). Bisceglia came back several motos later to take command of the first 2S0cc Pro moto (after early leader Tye Crandall fell). and for several laps held the point position - until rookie Pro Joey Mancuso came knocking. Mancuso challenged Bisceglia for many laps until the Honda rider found a way past and remained in front to the finish. Bisceglia. Tracy Johnson, Garhett Carter and Paul Conner rounded out the top five. Bisceglia took command in moto two and retained the point position to the finish. good for the overall win. as well as finalizing his series title. Johnson trailed Bisceglia from the get-go and nabbed second overall, while Mancuso overcame a poor start to finish fifth. good for third overall. Carter (4-3), Conner (S-4) and Richard Page followed overall. Corder was the cream of the crop in the 12Scc Pro class, but he didn't contest the entire series, so Page also added the 12Scc Pro class to his resume by virtue of his 10-S finishes. Corder took charge of both motos right out of the chute. leaving the Yamaha-mounted Johnson and Honda rider Mike Storm to squabble over the remnants. Johnson finished moto one in the number-two position, while Suzuki rider Bryan Clevenger garnered third at moto's end. followed by Storm and fellow Oregonian Keith Kadell. Moto two was much the same for Corder, as the Team Green rider initially trailed Clevenger off the start. Clevenger, though. gradually moved backward and finish ninth. One out front, Corder extended his lead with each circuit, leaving Storm. Johnson and KTM rider Carter to mix it up. Johnson would again be recipient of the second-place position, while ;~~~ Don Bisceglia won the Over 30 Pro class and finished second overall in the 250cc Pro class at Washougal Motocross Park. ~~_ ~~i$~~::.~ -':~~;~~ ;;;r..:,IIP'i,. ~ ':'1iI/j~~ .... ~ _ . , ..)
