Bames then had a mechanical failure that left
him pushing his VZ across the finish line.
Roberts was there to take a convincing win
and finish first overall for the day. Score it one
win for each - Bames in the 125s and Roberts
in the 250s.

IDAHO FALLS. 10. AUG. 17
The Wild West Series took round eight to
Noise Motocross Park. located on the outskirts
of Idaho Falls. Idaho. This was the first time
that the Wild West has held a race at the
improved facility. The track was prepared well
by the High Desert staff for the close to 400
riders in attendance. The weather was nearly
perfect, with sunny skies and temperatures in
the low 80s - until the aftemoon. when a dust
storm came in, making racing tough and
spectating even tougher. The track workers
did a great job of keeping the track in a safe

condition. as the wind was blowing a constant
20 to 30 mph. Track conditions were fast. and
a little tight. making passing a challenge for
all riders.
Last year's 125cc Pro champion. Pete
Roberts. has been challenged by Brandon
Barnes at many races throughout the series.
Not only are the two battling at most every
race. but the two-stroke-vs.-four-stroke argument (Barnes on a YZ125. Roberts on a
VZ250F) has taken on an interesting look as
the two battle on.
Bames once again displayed his ability to
get the holeshot. as he ripped one on the
slight uphill start. Roberts was midpack at the
start but quickly worked his way up to the top

Pulls One Out
Roberts had to pick off one rider at a time. By
the time Roberts worked his way into second,
Barnes had developed a large lead. and he
was not to be caught this moto.
Moto two appeared to be a replay of the
first moto, with Barnes getting another
holeshot. However, Cory Christiansen was
keeping Barnes within striking distance, with
Steve Martin and Boyd Foster staying close.
Roberts was having a difficult time getting
through the pack and never made it up to the
leaders, finishing fifth. Barnes extended his
lead. and Christiansen would have to settle for
second. with Foster finishing third. Bames finished first overall. with Christiansen second.
Martin third. Roberts fourth and Foster fifth.
Gavin Cross was in full control of the Open
Amateur class. Cross needed only half a lap to
get the lead and seemed to put it on full cruise
control to take the win. The battle for the rest
of the places was a real dogfight between Beni
Williams. Zane Trivett. Radley Gladfelter and
Reed Tingey. Tingey and Williams were dicing
it out when Tingey went down in the whoops,
letting Williams by. Wiiiiams then set his
sights on Trivett but could not find a way
around him. Trivett finished second, with
Williams third and Gladfelter fourth.
In the second moto, Cross showed again
he was the guy to beat. as he again pulled into
a lead and maintained a two- to three-second
lead. There was a lot of plastic being rubbed
by the others as they battled to improve their
first-moto scores. Williams was able to get
Trivett on the last comer and finish second,
with Trivett third.
Scott Taft dominated the Over 30 Pro
class, simply walking away with the wins easily In both motos. Lance Kelsey was trying to
keep Taft in sight but seemed to run out of
gas_ Chad Wallwork charged through the pack
to run down Kelsey and take second.
Jay Migliore showed quick reactions, as
the 40-something rider pulled a holeshot in
the second moto. Taft wasted little time getting around Migliore. Kelsey stayed with Taft
for the first half of the race. Wallwork was
again doing his Mike laRocco impersonation,
as Wallwork was passing his way through the
pack and ran down Kelsey in the final minutes
of the moto to take second.
Barnes was looking like he could not be
stopped on this day. Bames qUickly grabbed
another holeshot at the start of the 250cc Pro
moto. Bames made it iook easy as he pulled
away to .. large lead. Roberts again worked his
way through the pack. Roberts showed he had
the speed to catch up to Bames. but he had
lost too much ground and could not get close
enough to try a pass.
Barnes started the second moto with
another holeshot and started to pull away.
