While Schwantz did not say whether or not he would have continued to represent the Southeast anyway, the move to Texas evidently caused some controversy. "I had said in Cycle News earlier that I was going to move back to Texas," Schwantz said. "I guess someone filed a complaint with the AMA, saying that if I moved. I couldn't represent the Southeast. So rather than make a big stink about it. I just resigned, That's the news." Schwantz will remain on the AMA Pro Racing board. In a press release that the AMA sent out after Schwantz's announcement, the membership wing of the organization announced that it has appointed Carl Reynolds of Danville. Virginia, to be the representative of the Southeast region on the AMA Board of Directors. Schwantz defeated Reynolds during the board elections held in January, but with his decision to resign, Reynolds will fill the vacant seat on the board. The AMA board of directors consists of 12 members, six elected by the corporate membership and six elected by the general membership. Corporate board members serve two-year terms, General board members, who are elected to represent regions of the U,S .. serve three-year terms.
