F&S Suzuki Pee Wee Track Pee Wees Play at Open House Bv RUPERT X. PE1lErr DAYTON, OH. JULY 12 With their huge open house at both F&S Harley-Davidson and F&S Suzuki running concurrently with this annual Pee Wee extravaganza, F&S's Jeff Stolzenburg and his crew of employees and F&S Suzuki Team motocross riders assisted in the massive undertaking of managing a parking-lot Pee Wee Tl!lce in north Dayton. This third annual running of the F&S Suzuki Pee Wee "National" has the flavor of something big. as it has from the start. With decibel meters measuring the exhaust of the machines during staging and postrace tear-downs of the top machines, this free race takes on a fun yet competitive and very well-managed and policed feel. Young racers and their 50cc machines come from all over to this well-prepped and colorful mini-circuit, laced with banners and hZly bales, and with announcing by the voice of both the AMA Supercross Series and the AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Series. Erv Braun, this very professional "little" event grows in both rider turnout and spectator appeal each year. With upwards of a hundred young racers and a giant herd of enthusiastic spectators. the races were enjoyed by all. With official AMA referees, scorekeepers and track personnel on hand, and the fine narration of Mr. Braun, the heats, consis, LCo. and single-moto finales were executed flawlessly in a symphony of Pee Wee melodrama. This year. with the addition of a JR50-only contest included in the evening's program, the races were fast and furious. The Yamaha PW50-fueled main event was a 20-lap bamburner. with McArthur's Ethan Scarberry screaming his PW home first. using excellent doubling techniques over the course's small doubles and handling the passing of lappers with style. Coming in second was Circleville's J.T. Turner. with Brownsville's fast Evan Parkinson in third. Cincinnati's Hunter Brightwell took a strong fourth, ahead of Derrick "Diesel" Stinson in fifth. Local Ryan Rehmert stood high atop the Suzuki podium after besting two fast young ladies in the Suzuki-only JR50 ciass; Emily Titus ran hard for the runner-up spot, just in front of the speedy and stylish Shelby Rehmert (cousin of the winner). n e vv • MP Handcuffs the Boys Bv DICK GOODWIN LAS VEGAS. NV, JULY 13 Sportswest throttle junkie Michael Parker, growing ever more accustomed to his 125, put the clamps on the Schoolboy class at the fourth round of the Club MX Beat The Heat Summer Night Motocross Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night, July 13. The Lever Clothing-sponsored rider had things all his own way in the first moto, but had to fight past Honda of Houston hotshoe Ty Morrow to win the second half. Parker shot off the line to lead Morrow and Nevada Suzuki's Patrick Provencher as race action got under way. Boulder City, Nevada, native Justin Worthing brought his Yamaha up to join the lead pack as lap one unfolded. Parker and Morrow were bar to bar but, when Worthing crashed hard in the canyon, Provencher was all by himself in third. Parker put the hammer down, straining to make it a wire-to-wire win. Morrow took second, with Provencher leading Eric Campbell and Joe Musa across the line. Morrow wasted the field to lead moto two. Parker waited until the first big sweeper and then pounced, wresting the lead away. Morrow came back, but Parker wouldn't let him by. It stayed close. but Parker edged Morrow at the checkers, winning race two and capturing the overall Schoolboy crown. Morrow was a close second, leading Provencher. Musa and Campbell in the final results. It's halfway through the series. and Prince Kapahulehua and Dominic Desimone have been dominating the B5cc Stock classes. This night was no different. Honda-mounted Tony Caputo dived out in front to lead the pack through the first tum. Kapahulehua and Kurtis Gierer were claWing at his rear fender. Cameron Rodriguez and Desimone were also in the snarling pack that was fighting for the lead. Kapahuiehua passed for the iead. Caputo passed him right back, and it went bam-bam! for a lap and a half until Prince took the point for good. Kapahulehua put his Suzuki in the winners' circle, as Caputo and Gierer filed in behind. Quick-starting Caputo cranked out another one as the pack rushed the first turn. Kapahulehua and Desimone were applying heavy pressure, and it worked, as a bobble dropped Caputo to third. Kapahulehua had his "second-moto-only" gas in his tank and spun up a lead, as Desimone kept everyone else at bay. Kapahulehua flashed through the pipes to capture the win and the overall in the B5cc Stock (7-11) division. besting Caputo. Derek Stephens and Derek Rogers in the final Results PW5O: I.
