backfire following her second-round win over Mike Berry, and when she returned to her pit area, her crew began to change engines. However, team owner George Bryce thought better of it after reviewing the data from the previous run. "When we looked at the computer, everything seemed normal, and when I went out and checked the engine, all four cylinders had plenty of compression," Bryce said. "We did find one problem with the ignition, which we fixed. To be honest, I felt pretty confident heading into the semis, but right after the burnout it started to sputter, and I knew we were in trouble. I told Angelle to go up and stage, hoping Craig would red-light, but he just didn't oblige." As Savoie coasted across the finish line, Treble stormed into the final with a 7.15 and finished the job against Hines in the final. With five races remaining, Treble trails Savoie in the points standings by 82, which is the equivalent of four rounds of competition. "This win was huge," Treble said. "We did ourselves a lot of good in the points this weekend. That girl [Savoie] is in our crosshairs, without a doubt. I'm sure not about to give up. I know we are still in this thing." Savoie's biggest challenge in the last half of the season might not come from Treble, but rather from her old rival Hines. After struggling for more than a year, the former three-time series champ has looked sharp at the last two events, where he has posted a win and a runner-up finish. Hines' Eagle One Suzuki has also been the quickest bike at several recent events. Hines has also benefited from the addition of his younger brother. Andrew, who made his Pro Stock Bike debut in Denver and is committed to running the rest of the events aboard a second Vance £, Hines Suzuki. In Sonoma, the 19-year-old rookie won his first round of competition and recorded a best of7.16. "I think we're on our way back," Matt Hines said. "The final was a good race. My run in the final wasn't as good as my semifinal run, but it wasn't a bad pass. The bike bogged a little on the starting line, but I think that's just because I had a fresh tire on the back. and when the sun started to go down, the track got a little tighter and the bike grabbed a little too much. Over the last four or five races, I've felt really good about the way the bike has been running. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season." eN UIIMEI/CII'S GIEII1ES1 SPEC111111 CIOlSE" l).\\) 2411t ~ 125/250 US MX CHAMPIONSHIPS ~ [Ill§. ~~~ ~ TwinAir ~UN.iDP --VRADIAl ROVER H.'..Ti.'Iln:!!f! .1../tJ ... $ ~t~..4 SUZUKI. ~:;"'=::::;;J K S0BE ~ -lIotIesen 1fiiJ,-q« i1t5fl • (tjAZENOVlA !llQUIPMENT (tjOMPAl\~ INC.
