He took the lead both times out and stormed to monster wins in both motos, winning the overall with ease. Tanner Lake and Selby Oldroyd nudged out Courtney Nelson for places two through four. Tanner Krahenbuhl was dominant in the Pee Wee (7-8) division, although he had to fight off Caden Hadley to earn the overall. Hadley put his KTM out in front of Krahenbuhl to start the action. Krahenbuhl blasted past on the west side, as Polini's Jessee Brown moved up to challenge the leaders. Krahenbuhl kept his Cobra on the pipe out in front, leading Hadley and Brown when the checkers flew. Polini's Bawdy Ruesch just held off hard-charging Cobra rider Caden Gibbons to claim fourth. Heavy-foot Hadley shot out to lead Krahenbuhl and Brown as the second half unfolded. Krahenbuhl carbon-copied the first mota, Arrowhead Motor Speedway Castro Wows 'em at Arrowhead as he passed on the west side to take the lead. Trey Terbush had his Yamaha in second until yz rider Zach Blackburn took the spot away from him. Suzuki jockey Trae Norton finished fourth, with a race to the checkers going on behind him for fifth between KTM rider Dennis Hotson and Suzuki pilot Ryan Voit. Hotson crossed the finish line in front of Voit by a knobby. Robertson did a repeat performance in moto two, but Voit had a much better second moto, stllying in second from start to finish. Terbush passed Yamaha rider Kyle Sauder early on and held on to take third. Hotson made a pass on the white-flag lap to take fifth. Kawasaki jockey Justin Bogle took over the lead, followed by KTM riders Sky!ar Teague and David Wood. Wood made short work of Teague and then went after Bogle. By the third lap, Wood had moved into first, with Bogle second and hard-charging Suzuki rider Jesse Braden taking third away from Teague. Another KTM pilot, Colt Nichols, rounded out the top five. Browne and Jones rounded out the field. The draw for starting position for the main was done on the line, and the pole went to Brant. Right next to him was Castro. On the outside were Yarrow and Schwartz. Brant got the gate, but Castro took the lead as they came around on the first lap. Castro was working the outside dirt for all it was worth and Brant was taking no naps, and the two literally battled for four laps. Castro daimed the win and Brant had second, with Yarrow and Schwartz a distant third and fourth. The Handicap main had Browne on the zero, with DeFries on the 10, Harmatiuk and Yarrow on the 20, and Brant and Castro on the 50. Browne held the lead for two laps, ahead of DeFries. On lap three, DeFries took the lead, but it was very short-lived, as Brant came roaring by as they came around on four. No one was ready for the show that Castro was about to put on. He tumed it up all the way and literally rode the wall all the way for the lead, for the entire mota - twice in a row. That happened at Cedar Raceway on July 21, in the 250cc Junior class, as Honda hotshoes Greg Ahleen and Chad Hansen put around as he took the lead from Brant as the white flag came out. Castro continued to run against the wall and take the long way around, showing everyone his fearless riding skill and his bike's horsepower. The win was his, with Brant second. On back it was Harmatiuk, DeFries, Yarrow and Browne. on a wild bar-to-bar battle all race long, twice in a row! Kawasaki's Chris Herron got the jump on Ahleen as the gate dropped for race one. Ahleen soared past at Gravity Cavity, while The Total Image Challenge is a simple Mike Stika and Brian Fowler were holding one: One lap per round; four riders - don't be last. The four riders going for the cash were Yarrow, Harmatiuk, Schwartz and Castro. It came down to Castro and Yarrow in a two-lap down third and fourth. Hansen was racing through the pack, scrambling into second by lap two. He set out after Ahleen and soon caught up. Catching is one thing, passing is another, and Ahleen blocked Hansen's every move. The two went nose to tail for the remainder of the race, with Ahleen eking out a narrow victory over Hansen. Herron survived a go, and it was Castro with the hat trick on the night as he took the win. Yarrow was second, with Schwartz and Harmatiuk third and fourth. R•• uhs war with Stika to finish third. Quick-starting Ahleen moved up a spot, taking the point, as mota two fired up. Herron jumped him on the west side, as Hondamounted Shane Vernlund held off Yamaha's SCR: 1. Ed Castro (Cifo\); 2. Ahleen waited a lap and then retook the lead in the same section in which he'd lost it a lap earlier. By now, Hansen had battled his way into sec- ond, and the race was on! Once again, mere inches separated Ahleen and Hansen, and once again Ahleen held off Hansen in a thrilling race to the checkers, edging him for the overall 250cc Junior crown as well. Stika came blasting through just ahead of Herron to nip him for third, and third overall. Cedar Raceway Park: Chad Wallwork won both the Over 25 Pro and Over 30 Pro classes in Cedar City, Utah. cue' • n _ VV S AUGUST 21, 2002 77
