Strank thrilled the crowd with a lightning-fast run on the Dr. Bob Racing/BETB Sales and Service/Foxbacked Yamaha R 1, hammering the bike from the start with the 200horsepower machine dropping right in the groove over the first two jumps. Strank gunned it to a time of 5.034 to pass Bennett. "I needed this run," Strank said. "We put two more teeth on the rear sprocket, and now the bike is perfect. I've been having so much bad luck this season, but now I think I'm riding the way 1 should be riding - going for the win." Watson also clicked off a quick run down the center. With a straight holeshot, Watson nearly matched Tiger's run, with a 5.141 to move into second. "We lowered the bike and changed the gearing, and it worked," Watson said. "I hit the second jump and the bike didn't even leave the ground. The bikes are working great." Large tried a different line and the Reiser's Cycle Service Harley hooked up off the line and nearly flipped over the first jump. Jammer held on to it but went out of bounds and would finish in fifth place. Templeton and Bennett couldn't put together clean rides and would end up sixth and third, respectively, and Harry Denham ended the day with a 5.5-second run. The victory went to Strank, his first of the season. "I really needed this win to get things going and I hope it'll cheer up Cberyl [Shreiner] a little after the loss of her mother." The 800cc Money Round was marred by Large's crash halfway through. Jammer put together the day's fastest run, a 4.878, to take the win over teammate Bennett, with Strank ending up third. eN Mount &erfield Norton Shol'lls, Michigan Results: August 4, 2002 800ce: 1.
