Bike Week - Dave Despain, host Speed ENGINE • All-new motor wi more compact crankcase • (;ylinder mounted 6.2mm lower to lower center of grllvity • Cylinder inclined forward more to straighten exhaust ports & improve exhaust flow • Larger water passageways in cases for better cooling • Lighter. more compact water-pump cover • Redesigned crankshaft wi lightweight plastic web covers • Ughter ignition rotor for smoother revving & improved throttle response • Piston has reshaped exhaust-side skirt (for less flexing) & tin plating (for improved oil retention) • Special chrome-composite plating on cylinder walls for longer pistonlring life • Straighter top edge of exhaust port for improved power characteristics • Coolant passageways at each side of cylinder expanded for improved cooling • Upper motor mount moved from front of head to rear to reduce vibration • O-rings replace head gasket for better sealing • KIPS valve coated wi alumite & reshaped for improved exhaust flow & power output • New ratchet-type shift mechanism to make shifting more positive • Redesigned clutch uses lightweight die-cast hub & lighter inner hub • Clutch assembly uses new one-piece thrtJSt bearing. replacing ball bearing at pressure plate • Arch-shaped carburetor slide replaces conventional flat-slide for increased high-rpm power • 3x2 carbon-fiber reeds replace 2><2 setup for improved response • Reed-valve stopper changed to reduce shipped reeds • Final gearing changed from 12/49 to 13/51 to suit new powerband • Radiator capacity increased for improved cooling 8/13/2002 12:301W.
