his approach to one of the circuit's toughest hills. "I like pulling an early number so I can try for a good run during the daylight. Sometimes, my glasses fog up at night and the ruts get worse as the night goes on," Large said. With two winning streaks on the line, Large's pit crew wheeled the Reiser's Cycle Service/F&S HarleyDavidson/KK Motorcycle Supplybacked XR-750 to the line and "The Jammer" turned the big Harley loose and held it on up to the Ledge. He never backed off to stop the clock at 5.987 seconds. "Off the line, it came out of one rut and dropped into a different rut," Large said. "I was a little squirrelly, but I had to keep the gas on to get a good time. I felt good over the jump." The first fast ride of the second round went to Strank, as he threw down a 6.425 that landed him fifth overall. Libhart broke a chain adjuster and crashed, and then it was Watson's turn on the Spectro Oils/Factory Effex-backed CBR800. Watson came up short over the Ledge and almost crashed. "I was just trying to hang on there at the end," Watson said. "It's been a pretty good day, though." His earlier run would hold up for second place. The victory went to Large, though it may have been his teammate Gerry Bennett who ended up the happiest rider of the night, as he ended up on the podium after a season full of struggles. "The first ride felt great," Bennett said. "This is like a dream come true, being on the podium with Jammer and Watson - two of the best guys out there." Large also enjoyed sharing the spotlight with his teammate. "Our team has done real good here the last three years - it's close to home and we have a lot of help at this race. I'm just glad I got that good one in early in the day." 'IUS' Rid,.Ohio Hillcllmb NetlOIUI' Haydenville, Resulb: July 27, 20D2 800cc: 1. James LDrge (HoD); 2. Dave Willtson (Hon); 3.
