Third overall went to Miller, who, despite slipping to fifth in mota two, picked up third overall when the finish was combined with his third-place moto-one finish. Donnie "Earthquake" Kearney held on to his series points lead with a two-moto sweep in the 8Dcc (D· 1 I ) class aboard his West Coast Motorsports Suzuki. Second overall went to Mitch Alcorn, who picked up the pace in the second moto for second after a fifthplace finish in mota one. Cody Jeffers fol· lowed Alcorn and picked up a third in moto two after a fourth-place finish in moto one for third overall. Jeffers chased Terren O'Dell's rear fender in moto one; then O'Dell took placed fifth in moto two for fourth overall, beating out Jeagher La Fountaine, who went Silver Springs Racing 6·4 for fifth overall. Carlos Don and Paul Nelson went bar to bar in both motos of the 50cc (7-8) Modified class; Don picked up the overall with a win in moto two. Michael Richards improved his day with a 4·3 score for fourth overall, while two· thumbs-up went to Tanner Roberson, who improved to a fifth· place finish after an eighth in mota one to take fifth overall. Steven Cisar won the Schoolboy class at round one with a 3-1 score to take the overall, but then he was completely absent from round two. He returned at round three to take both motos in the Schoolboy class to beat runner· up Kyle Foltz, who missed the previous two rounds. Tyler Kalislak kept It together for a 3-3 score for third, and Brandon Bosworth battled through the pack in mota one for a seventh, and then squeezed into fourth in mota two for fourth overall, to edge out Mall Ortega (6-5) in fifth. Mullett Hooks a Win By LARRY WOOSTER ROCK GLEN, NY, JULY 6 Well over 100 riders and many more motor· cycle racing fans made Silver Springs Racing Inc.'s third Saturday Nite-X race memorable. Heat and humidity gave way to cooler temper· atures as nighttime fell on the Wyoming County track, site of the Avon Cycle Joint/Support Plus Racing/Michelin Tires-sponsored event. The bright track lights shined the brightest on the 50cc Shaft·Drive and 50cc Chain·Drive classes of young throttle jockeys on this night. In SOcc Chain-Drive action, Craig Mullett won moto one (and first gate choice for the feature mota), over fellow KTM bandits Brett McMichael and Connor Kelly. In the feature mota, Cobra wrangler Adam Miles struck for the holeshot, with McMichael, Kelly and Mullett trailing. Kelly challenged his nemesis McMichael for the second spot. Mul· lell darted past Kelly and McMichael for what turned out to be the lead, as Miles yielded way. Kelly claimed third place, McMichael managed second place, and Mullell hooked up for first piace. With several 50cc Chain·Drive riders also competing in the SOce Shaft-Drive class, things would get very interesting. Justin Mays was one of those competitors riding double duty on this night. He battled with Jade Repass for the holeshot in mota one of the 50cc Shaft· Drive class. Repass held the advantage early; Mays pulled alongside, and they ballied bar to bar all mota long. Mays won moto one in a photo finish and received first gate choice as his only reward, over Repass, Cody Marriott and a slew of Yamaha young guns. When the gate dropped for mota two, Mall Zacher looked like he would iead the pack through the holeshot. Mays proved to be quicker through the tight comer, with Zacher and Repass in hot pursuit. There will be another Nite-X race at Silver Springs Racing on August 24 before they close the book on Nite·X with an October 12 race. This series continues to grow as the Wyoming County track continues to pair their Saturday Nite-X races with Western New York Motocross Association Inc. points races the next morning. He delivered an even faster 2.996-second run on his second round, trying to retake the Fast Time, but came up short of Stewart's time. Schnitzler was second again, stopping the clocks in 3,050 seconds on his KTM 550. Young Jake Tackitt was also fast, riding Gayle Jenkin's CR5DD to a 3.III·second third·place finish, with Marc Stamm and Hackbarth close behind on their Hondas_ Wheelwright is the defending 600cc National Champion. Wheelwright's final win came in the 400cc Stock class, where he sailed his YZ250 over in an astounding 3.024 seconds. Stamm, riding for the first time after suffering extensive injuries in a hare scrambles event last fall, topped the hill in 3.266 seconds for second place. Stewart took the Fast Time award in the 450cc class, and he had to work for it. Hack· barth flew his KTM 360 over the top in 3.19D seconds on his first ride to take the class lead, with Schnitzler running second on his KTM with a 3.222-second run. Stewart was sitting in third with a 3.253-second first· round ride, but in the second round, the two-time National Champion blew over the 130·foot hill in a blistering 2.955 seconds, good enough for the class win and also the overall Fast Time award. Lloyd Haas was a double winner on the day, taking his first in the 750cc class on his Kawasaki triple with a 3.320·second time. Darryl Johnson rode his vintage BSA to a second~place finish, with Jason Northrup running third. Haas also won the Open Stock class with a 3.34g·second run on his YZ426F, Variety Riders Hillclimb Wheelwright's Triple Play By BUD NORTHRUP OTTAWA, IL, JULY 7 Eric Wheelwright had a nearly perfect day at the Variety Riders' hillclimb on July 7, winning all three classes he entered. His perfect day was ruined, however, by Brent Stewart, who claimed the Fast Time award for the second straight day. Wheelwright's first win came in the 250cc class, where the 20DO National Champion fiew over the top on his YZ250 in a blazing 3.076 seconds. His closest competitor was his good friend and traveling companion Craig Schnitzler, who carded a fine 3.167·second time on his Honda. Kevin Cappello took third on his YZ250, followed by Cody Jenner and Paul Hackbarth. Wheelwright's second win came in the big and fast 600cc class, and his 3.016-second first-round ride was good enough for the class Variety Riders Hillclimb: Jared McKay shows unusual style at the hlllclimb event In Ottawa, Illinois.
