tent the whole way and finished third, only one
point behind the two up front. On the track,
the three of them diced throughout each moto
and put on a show that the Intermediates
would have been proud of.
The 125cc Intermediate class wasn't very
big, but it was packed with talent. Clovis resident and Team Honda member Daniel Sanj
was on hand for some rare supercross-style
action. Series regulars Josh Cox, Casey Hinson and Brian Hulsey were also on hand. Sani
was clearly the dominant rider here, going
I-I, but the other guys were fun to watch as
well. Cox got great starts on his new Wilson's
Motorcycles-backed VZ250F, while Hinson
went down. While Cox tried to keep Sani in
sight, Hinson made a mad charge through the
pack. He got back in touch with the leaders
but ran out of time. Unfortunately for Hinson,
this happened in both motos and he had to
play catch-up all day.
The Sportsman X class was one of the best
races of the day. Sani and Mike Alessi had a
battle of epic proportions. Alessi got the better
start and led for the first few laps. His comer
speed was amazing, but the stronger, heavier
Sani was reeling him back in through the
whoops. S.ni made a pass a few laps into the
race at the end of the whoops and worked his
heart out to stay out front. The two red riders
proceeded to push the forces of gravity and
traction to their limits. Sani held on for the
win, but little Mike was right there. Based on
what those two kids did, the future looks very
bright for Team Honda.
