AMA District 6Points Race Hurricane Hills Sports Center Up the Hurricane CUFFORD, PA, JUNE 23 More than 300 riders came out to the Hurricane Hills Sports Center for an AMA District 6 points race on the expertly prepared and technical racecourse. An unexpected thunderstorm rolled through the area Saturday night and dumped a considerable amount of rain in a rather short period of time, which made for some pretty slippery conditions during the morning practice sessions. Tom Hurd, promoter of the Hurricane Hills Sports Center, and his track crew did an excellent job of scraping off the mud after practice, and track conditions improved 100 percent by the time the first gate dropped. Thomas Addy earned top honors in the extremely fast and competitive 125cc B class with his consistent 2-2 rides. Runner-up honors went to Walter Zabrowski, who finished fourth in the first moto and got the holeshot in the second moto and stayed out front, unchallenged, for the moto win. Third overall went to Joshua Bozzito, who won the first moto and finished fifth in the second. In moto one, Zabrowski got his YZF thumper to the front of the pack for the holeshot bragging rights and the early lead but then lost his front tire in the second tum and Just before the start of lap four, the top two remained unchanged, while Bozzito moved up to third, dropping Pepe to fourth. Addy held fifth. Half a lap later, Addy passed Pepe for fourth. Zabrowski had a whopping 14-second lead by lap five. Addy caught Eastman and the two began a battle for second. Bozzito was still fourth and Perri was up to fifth. Zabrowski finished the moto with a 16second lead. Addy eventually passed Eastman to take second. Eastman finished third, James Ayres finished fourth and Bozzito was fifth. Honda thumper pilot Robert Eichlin topped the superfast Over 30 A podium with a perfect 1-1 score. Eric Burkholder's consistent 2 2 rides got him the runner-up spot. James Fisher rounded out the podium with his consistent 3-3 score. Burkholder. another big-bore Honda thumper pilot, led the pack out of the first tum in the first Over 30 A moto, with Eichlin, Fisher, Jeff Cheney and David Eckhart in tow. Eichlin quickly got around Burkholder for the lead and began to pull away. Burkholder had to settle for second place. Fisher was already alone in third, while Cheney passed Eckhart to take fourth. Eichlin had checked out by lap four with a 10-second advantage and a triple for the crowd. Second through fourth were unchanged. Tim Henry was now up to fifth. With only one lap to go, Eichlin increased his lead to 16 seconds by the checkers. Rounding out the top five were Burkholder, Fisher, Eckhart and Ken Briggs. Fisher managed to outrun the Honda thumpers to the first turn in the second moto and took the early lead. trailed by Burkholder, Eichlin, Briggs and Darryl Smith. Just before the start of lap three, Eichlin passed Burkholder for second. Veteran Kawasaki pilot Gene Nighman had made his way to fourth after a not-so-great start, which dropped Briggs to fifth. Eichlin then quickly caught and passed Fisher to take the lead on iap three. Fisher was relegated to second. Half a lap later, Burkholder relegated Fisher to third, and it looked like the second mota's top three would finish just as in the first moto. Eichlin held on for another mota win. Trailing him were Burkholder, Fisher, Nighman and Smith. w Addy, Eichlin Heat BY JIM P. SANDERSON Hurricane Hills Sports Center: Robert Eichlin (22) passes Jim Fisher (820) to take the point position in the second Over 30 A moto at the District 6 points race in Clifford, Pennsylvania. Trailing Fisher was Erik Burkholder (875). went down, handjng the lead to Carm Perri. Rounding out the top five were Matthew Eastman. Patrick Benner, Bozzito and Addy. After 2 1{2 laps, the top five were Perri, Bozzito, Benner, Addy and Bill Hopkins. Benner caught and passed both Bozzito and Perri to claim the point position on lap three. Then Bozzito and Addy passed Perri, relegating Perri to fourth. Hopkins still held fifth. On the foilowing lap, Benner was still out front, but behind him Addy managed to pass Bozzito to take second. Perri was fourth, and Zabrowski was now up to fifth after going down in the second turn and remounting dead last. Addy tried to double into the corner preceding the finish line and went in too hot, overshot the berm and went down, handing second back to Bozzito. Addy remounted in third. Bozzito then closed the gap on Benner and made the pass for the lead with half a lap to go. Bezzite got the first-moto win, followed by Addy, Benner, Zabrowski and Perri. Zabrowski got another excellent start in the second moto and led the pack out of the first turn and kept it on two wheeis this time. Trailing him were Christopher Pepe, Jonathan Hercike, Eastman and Bozzito. Zabrowski had a seven-second lead by the third lap. Rounding out the top five were Eastman, Pepe. Bezzito and Addy.
