Pleasure Riders Hillclimb It"s Fast Andy at Old Bud BY Boo NORTHROP CAYUGA, IN, JUNE 22 The Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club honored one of their life members, Bud Northrup, with the "Old Bud Shootout" hillclimb on June 22. Bud was celebrating "the 30th anniversary of his 30th birthday" and the club helped him by naming the event in his behalf. "Fast Andy" Fortner was the star of the show, as he posted the fastest time of the evening on his 750cc "Hondasaki" triple on his way to the win in the 750cc class - but it wasn't easy, as Randy "Rocketman" Trosper had set a 4.062-second fast time on his first run in the 600cc class, which held up through the second round of that big and often fastest class. Fortner couldn't match him on his CR500, coming in with a 4.121-second time but Andy's a double threat, as he still had his fast triple to run in the 750cc class. And run it did, in the second round, as Fortner charged the I 50-foot hill with full throttle and sailed the screaming machine over the top in 4.081 seconds, taking the Fast TIme award by a mere one-thousandth of a second! Jason Northrup took second on his "Hondasaki" triple, with Boots Weber coming all the way from Wathena, Kansas, to take third on his classy Yamaha twin. In the 600cc class, Jared McKay also put serious pressure on Trosper, topping the hill in 4.100 seconds on his 10<500, and Scott Petty was also fast, with a 4.117-second run on his CR500. Butch Fetters posted a 4.177-second run on his Kawasaki for fifth, resulting in the top five riders being packed inside a tenth of a secondl Petty and Trosper met again In the Senior (Over 40) class, with different results. This time, Petty, the District 15 hiliclimb referee, set the time to beat in the first round, at 4.306 seconds. In the second round, Trosper nailed a 4.142-second run to take the lead, only to see Petty return with a sizzling 4.134-second run to claim the win. Ron Todd blazed over the top in 4.166 seconds on his Kawasaki for third place, followed by Mark Peters and Scott Pear- son. Todd continued his good riding, however, in the Super Senior (Over 50) class and took that class win with a 4.531-second run, followed by Gayle Jenkins, Bud Northrup and Keith Klett.
